Getting around 40mpg average now after 3000 miles in the D5 auto.

It seems quite poor compared to my old Vectra 1.9 CDTI, that averaged 51mpg.

Still that was a manual and only 4 cylinder. Give me the 5 cylinder roar and the easy life of a good auto box any day!

My old V70 2.4 manual did about 33mpg in the same conditions.

Having just done 100miles today with 4 people, plus paddling kit and 2 kayaks on the roof thought I'd chuck mine up.

OK I stayed under 70, and used high gearing.

But still got 30.5mpg according to the trip computer

So why would I want anything else?!

740 Estate 2.3 1989 Round town 26/27mpg on a long run (motorway) 31/32mpg. A couple of extra lbs in the tyres and sticking to the speed limit makes for a steadier more economical drive.

I reset the trip every time I fill up (once a week).

23.8mpg on an auto 1998 C70 T5.

Journey: 52 mile round trip commute - 5 miles in town, 47 miles dual carriageway/motorway.

Footweight: Aware of economy but often tempted by the Sport mode and the hiss of the turbo spinning up.

Previously, my 440 2.0 would get a shade over 400 miles to a tank on the same run.
