They ordered a spare for me when I forgot to request it at the time of placing the order and are now letting me have one at no extra cost
Again thanks for the warning.
Would your opinion of your dealer not have been higher if he had told Volvo

"Up with this my customers will not put...."

Obviously, for those of us currently with an XC60 and a sparewheel, volvo's withdrawal of the sparewheel option is not an immediate practical problem since we already have one. I am wondering if there is a longer term strategy for addressing the issue. I don't know what that is at the moment.

I'm all for having information. One question that occurs to me: Do we know if the withdrawal applies globally or only to certain national markets?

Another question: If the XC90 is retaining the sparewheel option, does by any chance that part also fit the XC60? (i.e. is it the same part?)

I am not sure that they will see 67 people (current votes on poll) as being anything significant in terms of popular feeling though. If we assumed 5000 XC60s have been sold, hen we would need 360 responses to be 95% confident of the result with =/- 5% accuracy on the result (as shown below 5000 is woefully low )
very true, but from acorns do great oak trees grow! it's a start, and its meant to be a strawman only. i guess manufacturers are going to get hit on this issue from all angles. one way which might be best is to contact some kind of consumer rights group, e.g. which? or maybe watchdog. it's important to bear in mind though, that this is industry wide not just a volvo issue.

It says:

31317980 Wheel equipment; Wheel equipment ( S80 CH Planned 2011-); Wheel equipment ( V70 CH Planned 2011- XC70 CH Planned 2011-); Wheel equipment ( XC60 CH Planned 2011-)

What does this actually mean? In particular what is the significance of "CH Planned 2011"?

I have no idea!!

I found it on a 3rd party site for Volvo spares.

All it did was confirm what I had been told elsewhere, i.e. that it is the same spare for those cars. There was no mention of the XC90, so I guess it is different?

I cannot think what CH stands for?

Could it be change planned 2011?

I wandered on over to the XC90 forum and asked about tyre size over there. The information I have is that the XC90 spacesaver is 155/85-18. This is larger than the XC60 at 125/80-17, so they don't look particularly compatible but only a physical comparison would give a definitive result. (Doing the calculations, the XC90 spacesaver compares favourably in diameter with XC60 wheels but is nevertherless larger than the XC60 spacesaver).

Question - if these Tempa tyres are becoming impossible for someone the size of Volvo to procure for sale with the new cars what are those of us lucky enough to have one going to do when we need to replace it?

Good question. The only option at present seems to be the Continental Temp Spare CST17 available at around £50 to £75.

Another question: How many types of vehicle is this used on?
