Insurance
Do these tyres affect insurance
Do you need to notify the insurers

I think not. Winter tyres were an issue with some insurers a few years ago before they 'woke up' and recognised they were better in winter. However, it does raise the issue of what happens if you run true winters all-year and have an accident in hot weather.

Here is the latest review to hit the press.
Goodyear and Nokian head the table for snow, but Michelin (less successful in snow) gets the first place for all-year round use. Note how these two are almost as good as true winters in snow. You pays your money and takes your choice. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accesso...rce=newsletter

Nowtvwring with Avon - unless they are worn out and need replacing.
Cooper Discoverer happen to be my favourite winter tyre, excellent value and very long lasting

I put Nokian Z line SUV tyres on the front of my old XC90. I regretted it. The steering became vague and the car seemed to wander around the road. Also the wear rate seemed high.
I seriously considered changing them even though they had not been on long. As it happens I changed the car. |

Well I can confirm that with today's dump of snow over the south Birmingham area, my XC60 with Nokian Weatherproofs on has performed unbelievably - it's like you're driving in normal conditions.......so smooth, not a hint of the car being unstable at any point - passing stranded vehicles all over the place.
I live half way up a hill that in my previous cars I wouldn't have got back up this morning. Sailed up it and into our drive.
