It'll always happen with "too much boost". Detonation is far more violent than normal combustion, hence why with accurate tuning you'll get away with a lot more in terms of bottom-end strength.

The h-beam uber-rods will go banana shaped if you try hard enough, although of course it takes rather more to do it

cheers

mouthy had an ecu tweak? for some reason i thought it was running a 19t with a remap? & an lsd to boot?
no Mouthy's running an 18t, i'm not sure what has been done to fool the ecu but she'd been plenty of miles with that modification & no problems.

but would too much boost be harder to acheive with a remap

standard maps only fuel to so much etc....

the only reason it boosted too much this time was because of the actuator pipe off the BCS, even with a remap if the BCS knackers up (which does happen) it would have had the sort of same results

i've got a Blitz boost controller on the way to replace the MBC to give me more control of how my boost

you miss my point.... does a standard ecu have the fuel map for running at 20psi? probably not as it should cut at 14psi......will probably run lean after that?

remaps have fuel maps for how many psi? mouthy has probably gone bang due to lack of fuel at high boost....

i think it depends what other mods are done along with the boost. On BT the decat has the added effect of upping the fuel, only SW autos knows what his secret mods are on Mouthy so i can't say

even a remap wouldn't of coped with a 18t running unlimited boost

not sure how a decat ups the fuel?

mouthy wasnt at full throttle? bigger turbo? slower spool? less low end boost etc etc....

a 15 would bend rods..... which would bend them first? standard map or remap?

Not sure if its too late, but good H beam rods can be bought from the states, ever heard of SPM? Well there are copies around, which are identical and only cost $100 a piece.

MissD, were you in a low gear when you stamped on the loud pedal? If so, that could be a reason for your overboost.

i don't get what you mean mate?

if you remove the overboost on the standard ecu (?) i guess it would bend the rods at a lower psi than the remap, but as i said even a remap wouldn't of saved Mouthy (she's been running fine for many thousands of miles so i don't think the fact she's on a standard ecu has played any part in it)

Thanks for the replies guys.

The engine was sweet as a nut so I'm pretty sure that the 'yellow' pipe which wasn't connected is the strongest culprit
