Default Maybe it wasn't that

Right, leaving general VOlvoguard questions to the new thread I started (although I would say that a lot of the stuff has been very useful thanks) - I just had a no-start on the one that was playing me about over starting.

Turned key, fired and started to run, then fluffed out. Just like (in the old days) a car that needed a bit more choke. Went perfectly second time.

So we wait and see some more...

It doesn't sound like a relay problem when you describe it like that. I think they either work or not. The only way to be 100% sure is to either fit a new one or check the one you have fitted.
I can't think of anything you haven't already tried to be honest.

Default Well...

Well, all I have actually done is to swap the Radio suppression relay - the ECU swap[p[ery was looking for a different fault and I would not ahve registered thingystarting.

I'll wait and see what develops.

Then it might be immobiliser unit time"! Groo.

Default Ah-hah (maybe)

Right, she did it again. So it defnitely is NOT the radio suppression relay.

Locking and unlocking door - no change.

BUT stop to talk to the postman, (all very Midsomer Murders, innit) then use the other set of keys - and bingo.

Now that might just be that it is an intermittent fault - or it MIGHT be the fat key failing to talk reliably to the immobiliser module. Well, I ahve an immobiliser module and some plippers for it (allegedly) - but I wonder if I have a fat key for that immobiliser. I suspect Mr Volvo can sort out a key for the spare immo module - or maybe a new key for the unchanged immo module - at some expense.

We shall see if I get home again. Off to sunny Croydon!

Default Did it fire?

My experience with a faulty immo module is that the engine will crank and run, but only for one or two seconds. The MIL will stay on during that time.

Default Well-

I'll have to watch the lambda light every time I try to start and report back. But so far so good using the other fat key.

Interesting it it is just the key causing the issue, sounds very similar to a problem i had with the lambda sensor. Changed that and it went away.

Default 4 days and counting....

Sticking to the key I think is better, so far 4 days and counting, no hesitation to start at all. Interesting!

Default Key!

Well, I don't use this one every day, sometimes I use a different one off the list in my signature, but since March 11 there has been NO failure to start, using the good key. Yesterday I tried with the suspect key and got a no-start immediately, changed keys and fine. Today I tried the suspect key and she ran. I still think this looks very like the keys are the key (so to speak). When I take her to the actual Volvo dealer not too far away in order to sort out plippers I will rationalise the keys so that I have two complete sets - over time they have evolved to ignition, driver's door, and boot all different!
