Same reason as women spend £500 on a handbag when a £20 one from Asda will do the trick!!

I'd do whichever feels right....if the deals there

There is always the Bernie Ecclestone opinion: “Marriage is like going to the nick. Not very exciting. If it flies, floats or fs, rent it”

I'm taking my bike out tomorrow for a blast, blow the cobwebs off and test the saddle bags I've bought for my ahem... tourer. I like to go places then go for a proper ride when I get there and remove all the junk I have to carry.
I took the winter cover off and found it had scratched the screen and tank. Not happy. This has been in the garage since November. Wind blasts must have been getting through the main door.
Not nice getting scratches. Still too much salt on the roads where I am to contemplate a serious ride, despite my best thorough cleaning one of my bikes got a bit furry last year,so not doing that again.

As for personal leasing, a friend pays £250 a month for a 1 series BM, is contracted to do so for three years then has to pay 8 grand to get out of it or enter into a new contract. Doesn't sound like happy motoring to me!
There is no end payment on contract hire they just come and collect it
PCP has balloon payment as an option to purchase or re-finance.

Just thought I would check actual depreciation figures for my XC60. Over three years it is not the 50% that has been alleged. More like in round figures, 20% against resale value, 25-30% as trade-in. Those figures are with respect to what I actually paid for the vehicle, not the list price.

Considering the thread is asking why people BUY new, I don't actually see a lot of actual buying.
I see leasing, renting, hire purchasing...... but not genuine buying where no third party has a lien on your car.
A more interesting question would be, Who actually owns their new car?

I normally own my car outright, but the 0% interest loan over 2 years, with no strings attached, seems to good to miss.

Me too. Why spend your own money when there's 0% available
