I think those black marks are scratches from not so sharp hand blade. I have this anti-rust spray from Lidl (attached the similar pic). Can/should I use it ? So when you said bare metal, did you mean cutting deep in to and through the floor metal? |

Those black marks are the bitumen showing where you've scraped the silver paint off. Nothing to worry about, but if it makes you feel better apply a bit of silver paint

Agreed. The important thing is to dry the car interior well before refitting any new sound deadening material.

Deeps well done !
Don't say I did not warn you about a second pair of hands when fitting but most of all what about the satisfaction and $ you have saved! If it makes you feel slighter better I spent all afternoon yday at between 2 and 4 degrees replacing the turbo drain line. I have found a new friend in Deerhunter gloves, they have a number of thin ones on offer at the Mo, I think mine are stretcha but they are all much the same, they are unquestionably better than anything on the market albeit not designed for the task in hand - at £4 a pair - and I am using a pair which Sportsman Gun Centre in Devon kindly replaced gratis albeit with a split down one of the seams. Regrettably as is the joy of doing these tasks for the first time yourself I now have a coolant leak which was not there before ! Another job and which ever way I attack it bloody beater everywhere ! All the best |

2 days before I finished the work on heater matrix and also the sound insulation. Though I have put the carpets back in, I haven't yet installed the side plastic panels. As Robert spinner pointed out, I have also placed a heavy duty paper towel under the inlet pipe and will leave it there for couple of weeks just to check for any leaks, so far good. I have topped up the coolant. But have seen a small drop in quantity inside the expansion tank and I haven't seen any leaks anywhere else. I don't know why. IS it so that there will be a decrease in the quantity of coolant in expansion tank after matrix replacement? and if so, how long will it take to come back to normal? Before applying the bitumen and then foam, I vacuumed the floor area and wiped it down it isopropyl alcohol. Then I applied the base layer (bitumen) and then foam. I took the picture of bitumen, but I forgot to take the picture of foam. I was too tired and it was too cold outside (-6 and a wind chill factor of -10). To Bigfella, though my wife was willing to help me, we have a toddler who needs attention all the time. Now if I were to let him come around the car, he would most probably convert the Volvo to a something other. I have this thermo plus super grip gloves. But hate that. I will try to find out the gloves you mentioned, and if it is available in Finland or if I could ship it from UK. I am attaching the picture of bitumen. Deeps
yes you should thank Robert Spinner ! the turbo coolant leak I have at the mo is a direct consequence of NOT listening to the master. I had read on various US sites that it was not necessary to remove the coolant line when replacing the turbo drain pipe seal / gasket. IPD possibly the largest supplier of Swedish car parts in the states advertise that you do not need to. BULL**** - you have to at least undo the line retaining bolt to give sufficient room to manoeuvre the turbo drain line. as a result I have given myself loads of self inflicted grief but at least I know for next time. I feel like I owe Robert an apology for the lack of faith. Zigs is of course correct - the system will have air pockets which will gradually subside unless you carry out Rob Spinners " burping procedure ". Well done and shame about the lack of a second pair of hands ! |

About the 2nd pair of hands, it is okay. No shame. It is just that situation was a bit tight. Otherwise there would have been a (totally willing) 2nd hand to help me, even my 2 and half year old son. |
