The large Caddy was a whale of a vehicle in its' heyday! I seem to recall some government bureaucrats wanting owners to install truck running lights on them due to their beam & length. Never happened! From time-to-time you come across one or two @ a Classics Car Show. Sitting in them is awesome. Never drove in one. Can imagine that they would float on the highway. Must have been the pinnacle of GM'sr flare for flash & fin! Came a long way from the "wee" fins of the late '40's! regards, Bill |

British (sports)cars are the most beautiful cars (stylish)
It just very sad how everything has become. Nearly everything is closed down. I think one of the best looking cars are the Rover P5B. Regards Michael |

What a great thread! I like many of the suggestions so far and have enjoyed thinking of my own.
I can't determine my single "most beautiful" car (it changes with my mood), but my top 10 would certainly include the Muira, 300SL gull-wing and E-type Mk1 FHC that were pictured in early posts. I would add: Citroën DS citroen_ds_1.jpg Must be the most beautiful volume car. Always too avant garde for us conservative Brits, but the DS sold 12,000 on its launch day over half a century ago, and 2 million in its 20 year run. Beautiful technology as well. (And how many other cars have been successful as family car, presidential limousine and rally car?) Citroën SM CitroenSM.jpg Brooding, intoxicating mix of Maserati engine and Citroen innovation. 1950s Bentley Type R Continental 1950_R-type.jpg Unique in the early 50s, this was a luxury 4 seater capable of sustained 120mph cruising, and with chassis dynamics to match. Real style (unlike the modern, footballers'-wives namesake) . NSU Ro80 RO80.jpg OK, they messed up the engine and bankrupted the company. On the other hand, the NSU designers did nothing less than invent the modern saloon car shape. Design cues from this athletic, aerodynamic wedge pervade almost every 21st century 3-box car. So it seems quite familiar and 'normal' now, but imagine how radically beautiful the Ro80 looked when launched over 40 years ago - the new Cortina Mk2 was selling well and Volvo had just brought out the 144. Ford GT40 A brilliant mix of aggression and subtlety 1966gt40.jpg Cheers John |

Some vulgar excrescences here. The Caddy, and the Mustang - both vulgar, vulgar, vulgar.
But just to prove I don't hate all Americana, I would approve Early Pontiac Catalina Bonneville 2+2 (and some GTOs) Cord 810 Studebaker Golden Hawk Early Mako Shark Stingray 427 Cobra But for real class Straker Squire 1 1/2 litre Vale Special 4 1/2 Litre Low Chassis Invicta MG Magna Any of the real Bentleys from the 3 litre to the 8 litre Maybach Zeppelin Facel Vega HK500 B series Fiat 124 Coupe (that and C series both knock spots off the P1800) Gordon Keeble GT Jensen Interceptor Piper GTT 7 and 9 series Jags SS100 Gilbern GT Rover P5B coupe Rover 3500S Estate Citroen SM Renault Floride and Caravelle about '64 (prettiest female coupe ever, useless drive!) Maybach Zeppelin Burney Streamline Oh, yes, that Merc 300SLR above, and the Miura Many Ferraris (not the vulgar SuperAmerica) Large range of Maseratis Bugatti Royale (1930s) DB4 Aston (above) Early E-type hardtop XK140 AC Ace Bristol "Businessman's Express" Allard J2X and J2R And the Beauty of the pack, the Iso Grifo Bizzarini A3C I'm sure I can think of more... |

![]() ![]() ![]() Beautiful....1939 Lincoln Zephyr V12 Coupe, by far my most beautiful ride. (Don't tell our lass that though!) Infact the Zephyr's far prettier from the rear than the front, rather like our lass'. I better shut up before she reads this! |
