ahhh, an answer! but if the belt brakes all the time you stick another one on there and the valves are unbent you have your answer.

Stick with fords.

The cambelts have a habit of breaking when your up to your front doors in the boot of a granada, Pinto cam belts will fit but I believe they are slightly too short and you have to take the tensioner off and replace it with an appropriately sized socket.

Incase nobody has guessed this is for banger racing not road use!

Why are you messing around with belts that have the wrong number of teeth - why not use the proper belt? Especially as your engine appears to be an interference engine, and you are regularly breaking valves.

If the belt has one tooth too many, or few, then it must be either the wrong length, which will put the tensioner wrong, or the correct length but with the tooth spacing wrong, which will strain the rubber.

Hi,

Maybe he has a bulk supply of valves and pinto belts and wants to stick to this method of running.?
Or can't be arsed to spend £20 on the correct belt...

Hit the nail on the head there (apart from the valves bit!). Why spend £20 on a belt for 15 minutes of racing round a track before being cubed if you have a box full of pinto belts that can be used.

Forgive my ignorance but I know little about banger racing - any recommendations as to a good web site where I can read up on it?

Just curious - not planning to smash Ford Scorpio's et al up with my tank! Though now that I think about it....................

I'm sorry, as you know I am very old and not very bright ! Could someone put me right here please...is this thread about drinking brake fluid with your grandmother in zero gravity, because if it isn't, I wouldn't like to waste my expertise on this subject.
Thankyou,
Barrie

God, I'm not sure if this is the funniest or just the most disturbing thread I've seen here ever? Someone must be on crack, beer couldn't get rubbish out of me like that...

And what does the cam belt have to do with if it's an interference engine or not?

Because if the cam belt breaks during racing due to an ingested bumper or similar if its a non-interference engine another cam belt can be thrown on to get the car out for the next race. The average banger driver will have stacks of pinto engine cam belts but not many volvo belts, (more fords being scrapped than volvos obviously!) hence the question if pinto ones can be made to fit.

The only banger website I can think of is www.wellbent.cjb.net if you can put up with all the pop ups!
