I have a MY19 V90 with adblue and my VIN does not seem to need a recall according to volvo website? Is this correct? is the recall only for non ad-blue versions

I have had my 'new to me' V90 D4 just over a week.

This morning my recall that is not a recall notice came through the letter box.
A plastic manifold that may melt, and catch fire or then again may not.

Not a great start.

Don’t worry about it. I’ve done 35,000 miles and nothing has melted yet and I doubt it ever will. Don’t expect a resolution to this any time soon either, although it is reassuring that after this letter, Volvo are committed to resolving any such issue that arise at any time in the future, if it ever does. Which it probably won’t.

Plastic inlet manifolds are very very common these days. Melting ones, not so much.

Actually not easy at all. One must undo the pillow-like engine cover (4 torx plastic rivets..) to only get a glimpse of the manifold- but then you only see the top side (furthest from the head..), which is the least likely part to deform/melt..

Out of curiosity (you guys here caused me a manifold-melting phobia.. ) I took a peak yesterday- and it looks as good as new, nearly 40K of almost all Dynamic-mode kms after

The way these things usually work is they’ve probably had a couple of cases of a deformed manifold - most likely hard-ran cars in super hot middle-eastern climate - and out of precaution Volvo has initiated a service action (a recall is government-mandated..) We don’t have a single case on this forum, and I am not aware of any melted manifolds reported on swedespeed either.

I’ve just done a 3K+ kms trip and am about to do another 3K worry-free kms in August

Perhaps the melting and subsequent fire are extreme, 'worst case' predictions, however there ARE forum mentions of manifolds having to be replaced due to soot build-up... this was noticed by the dealer during EGR valve/cooler replacement. In a couple of instances the soot build-up was even interfering with operation of the inlet valves, requiring cylinder head replacement (at significant cost to the vehicle owner!).

This is a very real problem that hopefully will be properly rectified by Volvo, hopefully before these cars become shunned and worthless on the secondhand market.

If the car engine is stopped while a Regen is taking place or shortly after, while exhaust/DPF is mad hot, (it gets up to 600°c) the fan can sometimes be heard running flat out and very loud and a lot of heat will be noticed around the car,

Some owners have restarted their cars then stopped the engine and the fan shuts down (don't ask how I know) after reading about the manifold melting problem I am thinking causing the fan to stop is very much the wrong thing to do as all that heat will remain in the engine bay rather than being dissipated by the fan. This may be the cause of the plastic melting.

If you hear the fan running really noisy after stopping, let it run, check after a short while that it has shut down when cooled.

I was a bit nervous when my fan was running like that as I once had a 1998 V90 and after parking in my garage overnight and battery was dead the next day, I could not even unlock it, The fan had stayed on after stopping engine and did not shut down.

Indeed. On my CR-V the fan would keep running (loudly) until the heat had dissipated even if you switched off the engine and locked the car.

The recall is not launched yet hence you can't find it , you will get a letter if your car is affected . Don't worry too much , no car has caught fire yet ...

Would catching fire really be the biggest worry?

For me, at least, the greater worry is the harm done to the secondhand value of my car if Volvo fail to provide an effective and PERMANENT fix for this problem (which is already being reported in the media)... unfortunately this is something that Volvo has so far failed to do in relation to the EGR valve and cooler blockages that are already getting these cars a bad reputation.
