Its probably fair enough for someone to try and get as much as they can for their wheels. I think there is a line to be drawn at making a few quid and trying to take the mickey though. Maybe the best thing would be to pop them on ebay and just see how they do?

yet again Ian, you have your facts wrong.... I wasn't expecting you to offer £500, and I haven't made £200+.

I asked for offers, which in some cases I received and I have responded accordingly. I am happy to admit it was a mistake to ask for offers. I shall try and put that right below:

4 galaxies on their own no tyres, good nick, with centre caps, quite presentable in my opinion:

£300 (please PM me if you are interested, I will hold off putting them on ebay)

I have a selection of part worn 205 55 16 tyres with 4-7mm that I can fit free of charge:

goodyear, pirelli, Durun, A-one, Michelin, Event, Linglong, Kleber, Dunlop, Infinity. There is the odd pair in there, priced from £20-£35 each depending on brand and tread left. I will happily document the tread levels and price if needed.

BTW if any local members need a dry workshop for emergency repairs during the wet/cold... I can help. I am in the RG40 area

with reference to the "perfectly good motor" comment, the following things were wrong with that car:
1) Front suspension needed rebuilding
2) 4 faults stored in ECU (various fuel and ignition)
3) recently had AA out for failing to start.... needs new cap, leads etc...
4) exhaust downpipe, cat, and lambda sensor required (exhaust leaking at turbo, all fell apart when removed)
5) boot gas struts beyond use
6) all switch illumination dead
7) steering wheel knackered
8) propshaft centre joint knackered
9) Air con not working
10) Aux belts shot

I'm sure there was more but I cant remember. Personally I was not happy to bodge it up and pass it onto some poor unsuspecting member of the public as a "perfectly good motor".

My facts aren't far wrong - you explained to me you were selling them with 4 good tyres.

That means you are actually asking £300 + (between £80 and £140 for tyres) ... so £380-£440 - not far off £500.

And when I said about getting £200 back for the car, I'm talking about just weighing the shell in which is worth at least £200 in today's prices, without selling anything at all on the forum.

wrong again, current price for steel when I weighed it in was £140 per ton = £156 total. I have the ticket if you don't believe me.

Your facts are wrong ,simple.

I don't see how £380 is not far off £500...... explain?????? It is £120 off £500

Can I suggest you stop digging???

My local weigh in is £175/tonne at the moment, so for a car 1.1 tonne = £192.50. So, assuming your rates wouldn't be far off what they are round here, my estimate (not fact in anyway) would have been about right.

And the £500 wasn't fact was it - how could it have been when you refused to indicate any kind of price to me?

Good luck with your sale, hope you get the £££ you wanted.

Too much for me unfortunately at £300, nice as they are.

Amongst the enthusiast market, are these galaxy wheels one of the most rare wheels obtainable alongside the Polaris or are there any others that fetch a lot of money?

Just curious.

Lovely set of wheels Antz.

i thought a bit of humour would not go amiss after reading all the aggro that was appearing on all posts as you will see from my previous post but honestly nobody in there right mind would pay more than they are worth any way.Nothing to stop anyone from going to a scrapyard and buying a set of wheels, in fact there is a garage over at Twyford that sell a lot of genuine volvo spares 1990 onwards..re sunnyvic

On the rare front, it goes like this in the UK (IMO): Gemini/Orion > Polaris > Galaxy.

Galaxies aren't that rare, as pretty much all Sport Editions came with them. They are a nice design though, and you can never go wrong with a bit of dish.
