Volvo seats suck. They really do. When i see people on YouTube that reviewed Volvo models saying that those are the best seats in the market i feel like laughing. R design ones are the worst. I am 1,90cm and i am 110kg so i occupy all the seat. For a tiny and thin guy i think volvo seats are ok. But for tall and heavy people it's a nightmare. The best definition that i read one day in this forum was someone saying that you don't sit in Volvo R design seats. You sit on them. You feel like you're on a table. bad seats in my opinion. good-looking ones but not comfy at all. MY last Volvo for sure. In some details volvo is so far away from the other rivals brands.

So far they have exchanged extender cushion - see small improvement.

Have a feeling that cushions/paddings are too small/too soft so I can easily reach metal bars underneath and feel all the pressure from it...

I also find skin stitches hard and causing discomfort - do you feel the same? Especially right leg is pressed from the right stitch which is between skin with ventilation and regular one (without ventilation).

Will be interested in what they replace as we tried for years with Volvo complaining about our seats and didn’t get anywhere with them.

I felt the seat in my 2018 90 R-Design was too hard, you did indeed sit on it rather than in it (standard Nubuck) however the Nappa leather seats in my 2022 90 R-Design seem softer and infinitely more comfortable so maybe something has changed over the last 4 years in Volvo seating dept?

I now buy cars solely on ease of access and comfort. Because of the "comfort" part of that I wouldn't consider anything purporting to be sporty. When buying this car I tried all the seat options they had at the dealership, these seats are the best I've had in a very long time. Seats are very personal.

Maybe you're not so large as me. Well to be fair, the Inscription leather seats were more comfortable. I wrote "were" because i did a test-drive back then in 2018. Now the seats are probably different in some way as volvocamper said. So as i was saying i did a test-drive with a Inscription XC60 before buying my current XC60. And at that time those Inscription seats were more comfortable compared to the r design ones. so why didn't i choose the Inscription lineup? Because i liked more the r design one. Specially on the outside. I should have ordered the Nappa leather seats instead of opting for the r design standard ones.(standard Nubuck). But i didn't want to spend money on the seats as it was an extra. My bad.👎🥴🥺😬🤦

It's significant that this topic is still running. I contributed in May 2020 and my views remain the same. The seats are terrible. Volvo have been as useless as a chocolate teapot.
Whatever car I next get I doubt very much if it will be a Volvo.

I'm on my second SPA XC90 now, the first an Inscription with front seat cushion extenders which I optioned, and now a R-Design Pro with the sports seats and cushion extenders. I've also ridden in a few earlier SPA XC90 courtesy cars and demonstrators, mainly R-Design with the nubuck sports seats. I find the seats both comfortable and supportive and have never had any issue with them, by far the comfiest car seats I've ever had. I've had Audi's in the past which I could never get comfortable in (a3 and a6, both with sports seats), I'd almost be bent double at the end of a long journey in those.

The only thing agains the Volvo seats I would say is in earlier R-Design (XC90 MY17 probably), I found the Nubuck sports seats a little tight around the thigh, and this is one reason for going for Inscription initially. Not the case in my 2021 XC90 R-Design Pro, they feel a little wider.

And I'm pretty much the same size as you, 16+ stone and 6' 2".

I think it really is a personal thing, and to say Volvo seats suck is a bit harsh, and possibly a little misleading for others.

Coming from a few Audi's too and have to say the Volvo seats (R-Design with nubuck) knock them out of the park for comfort/adjustability.

My inscription seats are very comfy and best from the the cars I ever had. Also I still have plenty adjustability if needed. 6h journeys are nothing can do in one go and still happy to seat. May it be down to R-Design sporty over comfy
My size is as you VOLVOLOVER.

I'm about 6ft and weigh in at about 13 stone. Recent trip to The Netherlands, circa 5 hours from Calais was completed without a fuss. Only stopped the once for 5 min toilet break.
