Funnily enough the only autos I've owned are Volvos.. The DSG is pretty good though I believe, the mechatronic units occasionally go wrong, but can be repaired or replaced relatively easily. Two types, wet clutch and dry clutch. VAG only recommend oil change in wet every 40k miles, and much like the Volvo boxes the dry clutch are 'sealed for life'. A mate did have a dry clutch one that the clutch gave up on and it was quite expensive to get changed. As Stu says, oil changes and hope you don't get a Friday afternoon car

So, update, it's getting much worse still no EML though..
As noted earlier in the thread about maybe being worse when engine is cold, that is now noticeably the case. When you start it and leave it at idle it almost cuts out and then catches itself every 30 secs or so and is pretty bad driving at lower RPMS, between 1200-2000 roughly, stumbles and catches itself. Doing more reading on this pointed me towards the EMAP, probably a blocked pipe, but using Carscanner I put the MAF and EMAP on same graph and they pretty much followed eachother exactly, which in my limited understanding shouldn't be the case if there is an issue. Any other useful live mapping parameters anyone can recommend to look at EGR etc? It's booked in for diagnostics on Thursday 21st (earliest they could fit it in). |

I made a recent discovery on my V60, on the bottom of the EGR valve is a small plastic cover, you can pop it off with a screwdriver, from there you can actuate the EGR valve.
I found that if I wound mine all the way open (I believe), it would stick at the end and be reluctant to return. I sprayed some GT85 on the mechanism underneath and actuated it back and forth a lot, it seemed to improve the stickiness. I suspect long term the EGR may need cleaning - could be worth a look on yours.

Cheers for that, I'll take a look out of curiosity and see if it's free.

Split pipe causing unmetered air into engine. Simples as it turns out. £325 to repair inc diagnostic and VAT, Volvo only part of course. Now, the stored EGR fault is little more worrying, but have to see about that once pipe is replaced tomorrow morning.

Just to close this out, pipe has been replaced and no fault codes have reoccurred. Got the car back and the hesitation/stutter has gone, happy days. Hopefully I won't suffer the common EGR failure in the future (if I'd researched properly I probably wouldn't have bought a VEA Euro6, but nevermind!).
Thanks for everyone's contributions along the way. |

Just had a speed read of this thread, really good to see OP's issue is resolved with a relatively simple fix.
However a few points that didn't get raised, apologies if they did and I missed them. The OP's car is 2015 and if it is a 2016MY (i.e. manufactured 2015 week 17 or later) then home copies of VIDA will not work on it. Also, as it's front wheel drive and the 2.0 VEA it will have the 8-speed TG-81SC gearbox, not the 6-speed TF-80SC which was fitted to earlier models and those with AWD. However I believe it still uses AW-1 (3324) fluid.

Glad to read you got it sorted, Simeon90!
Here's a few pics of the damage to my fresh air in pipe where it meets the rocker/cam cover breather. See repair with my old friend Arldite and cable ties for good measure. My hesitation appears to be completely gone but, as I cleaned the EGR cooler and EGR, the two together may have been contributing to the hesitation.

EGR cooler had a manufacture date of 2018 so was replaced sometime after that. Unfortunately, it's the original design with the smaller cooling fins so will upgrade to the newer type next time round.

Now that's interesting, I definitely didn't think it was an 8spd, mostly because it just doesn't change gears enough to have that many There's not a lot of info out there from my Googling, but I read that all facelift FWD diesel's got the 8spd? Is there any gearbox identifier on the car? |
