Changed my '03 DIM to one from '04 as a precaution because my old cluster was showing signs of failure. New one has chrome rings and LED illumination.
It was plug&play, the DIM kept the donor cars mileage which I'll need to sort out because I'm missing about 110.000 km. |

Fitted my Chinese/Audi AQC sensor from eBay. I haven't checked the readout on Vida to see if the error code has cleared.

Removed my OS drive shaft and replaced the gearbox oil seal and reluctor ring.
I guess it was quite fortuitous that the reluctor ring went on the same side that I needed to change the oil seal on! I need to do the wishbone on the other side and will change the seal and ABS ring - I don't actually NEED to do either of them, but I think at the very least the ABS ring won't hurt as it's pretty rough. I will make a decision on the gearbox seal depending on how dry it looks... You can see in the first image, after a little clean, how much oil has been spraying about. It's all clean now. Once I make up my mind on the other side I will change the box oil. |

Today I reprised a repair common to our cars.
A while back I had an oil leak in my V70 and found the PO had hit something and had the oil pan repaired. I could see the scrape fore and aft of the pan strike. The leak was a small; visible 3 seconds after wiping. I drained the oil, cleaned, sanded and degreased the effected zone with residue-free electronic cleaner. It was then the inclusions (small flakes of carbon) in the repair were visible. One of those flakes extended through both sides of the pan, dissolved and thus a leak was born. I applied J-B Weld to the effected zone and it has held ever since. Today I did the same to the drain plug boss of the 5 speed in a friend's '05 V70. After driving over a curb-stop in a parking lot a friend's aunt backed back over it to get free. The concrete lump caught the boss and twisted it down creating an inch long crack. We shall see if "J-B II" holds. MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't lone your car to a daffy 75 year old who takes her "purse dog" out for drives. |
