For my 940 sports..leaded is not an option...so I run them (one now being retired) on V-Max (99 RON) a supposed re-vamp of Optimax (98 RON)...and whilst it doesn't turn them into a Veyron...there is a worthwhile difference.

I have now done nearly 250,000 miles in in total in 940's...a 16V and two Sports...and do not especially rate the BP ultimate...but V Max is good...but it's no good sticking say 320.00 in your partly full tank and expecting a miracle.

You will need to run out the tank and have a good tankfull or two through to gain the real benefit, I do 'not' drive like a Demon..but the cars do run better..smoother etc on it to boot.

My Amazon's (old and current)..both quite high compression (but standard cars) twin carb S models..pinked on regular fuel...so 3 or 4 years ago..I tried BP Ultimate...still the (now sold) Amazon..would run on ..just for a mere fraction...so I tried V-Max.

No more Pinking or run on!...my current Amazon has covered just 4,500 miles on it's fully re-built (Amazon Cars) Engine...so has an unleaded head..but I thought to myself..it still needs V-Max to stop the tiniest amount of run on...in fact...when hot, say from a spirited run it still did it...just.

So I thought I would try the Bayford thrust...then thought...sod it..bite the bullet and purchase some Tetraboost, why bother with it when I have an unleaded head...well just thought the higher octane..and anti knock plus cooling benefits of the lead would do no harm.

Sure it's expensive, but classic car ownership is is hardly about transport at it's cheapest.

James

Oh so do you have tetraboost lead additive? did you mind selling me a bottle of it to try?

Is yours the carburetted version? Mine's the K-Jet, and I've had a couple of serious brown trousers moments pulling out into fast traffic and forgetting I was in The Tank and not my "modern". The lack of acceleration is the one thing I don't like about it - but it'll cruise all day at, ahem, 70. Then again, mine's got over 100,000 miles more than yours...!

88740Gl...Got your PM...I may be able to spare some...problem could be shipping it, I believe Tetra whom I purchased it from must have a special arrangement with Parcel force as it arrives with lots of danger/warning symbols on the packaging.

I guess I have never especially worried about the fuel costs with my Volvo's...if I did...well...I wouldn't drive a volvo...I would be driving some uber' economical diesel estate, however...my 940's earn their keep...so their load lugging and carrying capacity..and general mechanical cheapness to run kind of balances things for me.

I guess a more modern (slightly) 850 etc with the diesel Audi lump in it makes great fiscal sense..but when my friend parks his 850 Diesel next to my 940...it's somewhat smaller load compartment rules it out for me...

I Know it's not a volvo but.....

I run a 1977 Triumph Spitfire 1500 Twin carb

I've had it tuned by Dave Bogg of "Bogg Brothers" who are the best you can get.

My Spitfire has been specifically tuned to run with its unleaded head on "Super Unleaded" petrol.

I'm guessing whatever car you have.....it's the set up that counts.

http://www.silverforce.co.uk/TB-UK/list.htm gives a list of all suppliers. None near me, more's the pity!
