Are the anti-roll bars and associated bracketery available? If so, what diameters are they?

For what it's worth Dave, I think all 940 Sports had Nivomats, so it's not such a huge loss.

I also believe that all 940 Turbos (i.e. HPTs, whether 2.0 or 2.3) had a 1041 locking diff axle. Certainly US market HPTs are considered to always have lockers. Obivously most later 940s were LPTs, which AFAIK didn't have the locker. You're looking for a label on the axle tube (under the crud) which says 1041 (opposed to 1031).

cheers

James

Just a completely random thought, Steve...are you the guy with the long hair and the silver 245 with the molded in 960 rear spoiler I spoke to at the MRG meet? I may be putting two and two together and making five, but...

FWIW, the M90 doesn't fit in the 240 transmission tunnel as far as I'm aware, so keep an M46 or M47 on standby!

cheers

James

Correct. I remember you saying. I still need certain parts of it though to create a clutch and gearbox strong enough to deal with the power. Plus as I have said i wanna get it running high BHP in the 9 where it is designed to run before trying to shoe horn it into my 2. Then I wanna rolling road it to see what I'm getting at the wheels. I believe although not entirely sure with out looking it up that my 240 has an M47 box in it anyway.

It depends on what you're aiming for, but the M47 (5 speed) or M46 (4 speed + OD) and a suitable clutch (740 Turbo or 740 TD) will hold...quite a bit of power...as long as you don't change gear like an ape.

We're running an M90 with a 940 TD clutch in Ryan's 740, but that's now slipping above 24psi of boost on a Garrett T3/T4 hybrid turbo. That's somewhere around 325bhp. We're aiming to run 2 Bar / 30psi and a larger turbo, which should see us heading north of 350 on a standard 8v cylinder head. That is going to mean a custom clutch...

On the other hand, stick with a smaller turbo (large T3 or TD04-18T/19T from a S70R/V70R) and up to 20psi, and you can keep the bolt-in tranmission, and you'll still get best part of 300bhp if you set it up right, which will make a 240 (which isn't that heavy anyway) shift pretty well.

The key to keeping the drivetrain together is to keep torque down (mainly through running less boost), but make up for it at high RPM with a good cam and a turbo with an exhaust side which flows well. A Cosworth T3 is probably a good choice. That's exactly what I'm doing in my 360 - Enem V16 Turbo cam and a Cossie T3 - as engineering a stronger drivetrain for it is a ballache - much worse than the 240 in that respect!

The other option is to fit a different 'skinny' but strong transmission like a Ford T5 (from a Sierra Cosworth, TVR, etc...or a Ssangyong Musso...!) or a Getrag 265 from a BMW with an adaptor plate to mate the box to the M46/M47 bellhousing. Both of those will fit straight into the 240 tunnel.

The M90 is a chubby bugger mainly because it's a re-engineered version of the 850's M56 box...and FWD boxes are a different shape. Much as I like the M90, unless you cut out the floor, when you're dealing with a 240, it makes more sense to go elsewhere if you're shooting for more than 300bhp, or you want to be able to abuse it. If you need a prescedent, the Group A 240 Turbo touring cars used Getrag transmissions.

cheers

James

Thanks for the imfo foggy. I was hoping for around 300-350BHP so I guess I will be needing another transmission. I am nothing like ready to start doing it yet. I still really need to identify what I've got, what other parts I need and good up grades. I. E weather or not I could get a spiky er cam etc. I am hoping to get a start on the engine build after Xmas and at that point if it's ok with you or even before if you don't mind. I would appreciate a kinda shopping list of parts to look out for. I have got some imfo but it can't hurt to have it from someone who's actually done/doing it.

Thanks
