Thank you for the email and interest in our products. Yes all LEDs are road legal and European certified. It is only Xenon which require additional extras to make them road compliant.

The H7 will most likely fit, so long as your current H7 halogen bulbs are either held in with a spring or push fitment. If it is an adapter fitment then this may be difficult.

I hope that helps?

Best Regards,

I was about to write look for CE markings which effectively replaced BS kite mark for type approval when I noticed your latest post.
Sounds like they are CE approved.

Just ask them to send you a picture of the CE marking - I bet you that they cannot do that, ergo they are not approved.

They are in the same place as aftermarket HID lights.

I still think they are non-compliant. See my earlier post #8. The light output is too high.

Normally I'd agree but then would Philips get involved in dodgy practice ?

The only other explanation I can come up with is these are legal for use in the States and someone is reimporting them.

I got mine today and put them in my lightbar. How much brighter were they? About half as bright as the basic halogen bulbs that are in there! Total garbage!

I wasn't using then in the correct application really but I expected plenty more!

Ha, no worries, I did expect more and have plenty of very good LED lights (torches, bike lights etc.) but it looks like the only way to make lights work well is to design them from the ground up. It goes for HID, LED halogen etc. Trying to graft a new light source into an old reflector never seems to work properly.

They can not be road legal in the UK as they are too bright, therefore they can not legally have a CE of BS marking on them, but as with anything it is easy for the manufacturer to press a fake marking into the metal.

And yes Phillips do sell bulbs that are not road legal as do places like Halfords, in very small print on the box will be 'not legal for road use' or 'off road use only' the seller is not legally obliged to tell you this.

LED conversion kits are not legal for sale/use on cars for the same reasons as HID conversion kits.

One of the reasons for them not being able to get type approval is that the bases for different bulb types have to be different. Therefore, fitting a halogen base to an LED bulb would not pass, because it would allow an LED bulb to be fitted to an incompatible headlight unit (halogen), which cannot work with the bulb, as the light source is produced in a different way.

I have been researching this issue for much of this year, consulting lighting specialists, bulb companies, plus UK police and UK & EU authorities and law-makers.
