C70 Stereo, SatNav, Parking sensors & roof faults.
Hi all, I have 2 C70's. I bought one with faulty Stereo, SatNav & Parking sensors. The Stereo will show in the display for 0.5 of a second if you turn it on twice. But nothing happens. I physically removed the LCD display & the 6 disc CD player behind it. I extracted the 6 CD's within & reassembled the whole thing. Sadly nothing changed. I am thinking the Stereo, SatNav & Parking sensors are all linked, to add the car has (not by me) had additional 3rd party parking sensors fitted to the front of the car. I can hear the motor mechanism work on the sat nav display sometimes. I've forced it up but it just motors straight back down. So thats Volvo 1.
Volvo 2 gets purchased at a reduced price because the Roof doesn't work. I'm thinking hmmmmmm at that price I can swap parts. So I get Volvo 2 home, guess what? Some tinkering & the roof works temperamental though it is. The boot always opens & the rear parcel shelf doesn't move down & thats it, you get the roof alarm. I then press the close button & the boot will close. Press the open button again and inevitably after 3-4 attempts the parcel shelf will fold & the roof will open and stores in the boot correctly. The roof open message appears, thats good as no alarms or fault indications show. Although during the transformation the roof fault message constantly shows. Now for the closing. This usually transforms correctly giving the roof closed message and as on opening, you get the roof failure message throughout the transformation. I can drive off & you can immediately get the warning alarm, roof can be damaged message. Other times you can drive for an hour with all fine. Then the alarm will sound...... It is very frustrating! To add on this 2nd Volvo the yellow roof raise button activates the 2 securing hooks, they rotate but nothing moves. So I think thats linked to the fault? Oh & I nearly forgot the parking sensors don't work on the 2nd Volvo either. The Stereo does though? So I am seeking some advice on all these issues please. Thanks in advance, Adam |

first check boot for water ingress open and clean all visible connectors check load cover is sitting in the correct position oparate the roof keeping your foor firmly on the brake never do partial roof operatons ie all the way open and the same closeing if still no get some one with vida dice to read the codes once you have this info download the pdf for roof service and search out any faulty sensors but its more likely a broken wire the one that comes from the yellow lift button is a a common one keep us posted with your progress

Have a read through the thread "C70 Buying Advice", if anything is bent it may be expensive to repair. A lot less if it's a Hall Sensor. Iwish you luck and the latter, |

I had a similar issue when I first got my C70.
If I was parked on uneven ground (eg, with two wheels up on the kerb), then the roof wouldn't line up properly with the latches in the windscreen surround when closing, so the latches would not pull it fully closed and the front section would sit a bit proud of the windscreen. The cause was that the roof mechanism hadn't been used much by the previous owner and hadn't been serviced for a long time, so some of the mechanical joints were a little stiff, and this was causing a slight twisting of the roof during operation. Once the mechanism was cleaned and the joints and pivot points were greased, the roof operation was a lot smoother, and everything lined up and closed properly. |

the roof catches at the screen can be operated manualy if you think they are stiff just remember the start position before moveing and return to the same place so the catches are syncronised with the other components
