Dervs will run fine although sluggish if timing is out. Fuel economy will suffer also. Vag cars have vernier pullys and can be adjusted using vag com. Not sure about how to check and set a d5

Timing belt was changed by a company based in Gloucester called lawnsdown.
I guess I will have to take the car to the garage to correct the timing on the timing belt. |

Quote:
Timing should be set about 1 degree advanced so as belt wears it retards naturally.

Took the car on the motorway and managed to get 35.7 mpg speeds 70-80mph.
Did 150 miles of journey, fuel tank was showing 225 miles left. Would it help if I'd changed the fuel pump or fuel filter? Timing belt is fine, as checked it with my local mehanic. |

yes change fuel filter - it may be choked if can has been ran down low frequently.
check the fuel economy using miles and how much you've used rather than the trip computer. They do tend to be inaccurate

I will order the fuel filter and hope that will cure the problem. Where is the fuel filter located on these cars?

Hi,
I i get 30ish mpg from my c30 which is a D5 geartronic automatic, and i thought that was quite poor! That's doing a lot of short journeys, the best i got out of it was 37mpg, i don't drive economically just to point out. I have to work out my MPG from doing it on the computer as my car isn't fitted with a trip computer. |

30 seems low in a C30.
Mines a 2004 S40 SE 2.0d. It gets around 35mpg every tank full. It mostly does journeys of around 4-5 miles up and down some steep staffordshire hills. It does get the occasional longer trip but they're quite few and far between. A tank full of fuel tends to last about 5-6 weeks |

Well to be honest I only so short journeys usually, probably 4/5 miles like yourself. I expected high 30's if I'm honest but I'm just putting it down to the climate being colder and being an automatic, with short journeys this can't help surely!
I drive to Nottingham at least once a week so it does get a good run, but the mpg doesn't really seem to be any higher than 30-32. Of a full tank until the light comes on I get 350-400 miles. |
