This is from a D5 tuning thread on one of the other models S80/V70 etc etc.

This software has been developed in Sweden by a Swedish engineer with a background in both vehicle electronics and vehicle dynamics using the very same equipment and files as used by Volvo's development engineers themselves. MTE have access to every last of the near 9000 fields over which the latest, most sophisticated ECU's have control.

This highly resolved product is available here in the UK from £395 installed. You can further enhance your purchase by the addition of MTE's Softloader system and full Volvo diagnostic and data logging software.

You can check the technicalities of the MTE Softloader system if you have a look at the website of their US distributor www.ipdusa.com

Please call me on 020 8959 3230 if I can help further.

Regards, Don.

EDIT: I guess if you don't like the price of the RICA but still want it you could try pointing out that this version is a lot cheaper. You could also shop around and see if their other agents would do it cheaper. My guess is that the price has increased due to the high exchange rate of the Euro against the pound.

Can anybody answer the following:

Can the RICA upgrade damage the car in the long term?

Has anybody had a RICA upgrade on a XC90 D5 185, if so what were the results?

How much is the said upgrade, approx.?

I have emailed a couple of authorised RICA tuners, with some of the above questions, but would still like to know your thoughts on here?

Thanks everybody, really homing in now, I am sure I will be a "proper" member soon!!!!
I have a RICA 226 tune in my '08 D5, I'll try to find the links for the info I put up ..

Thanks for all the information, to get a authorised Rica agent to do the upgrade they want the car all day, which is not good for me as none of them are close to my house. However if I go the PPC route it is not only cheaper, but I can do the upgrade myself in minutes, and also have the option to revert back to the original configuration.

All I need now is a XC90, d'oh.

I just noticed there is one going though my local(ish) auction, Chelmsford today at 11AM on an 03 plate but it is green, hmmmm.

I think I let this one go, I really want the 185 version anyway.

I think you'll find that most will do it while you wait, I think it takes about an hour, but as you say the PPC is cheaper. It used to be more expensive when it first came out. The rica agents do check and road test your car first before they connect it to the internet and then it's reprogrammed from Holland. As long as you're happy your car is OK the PPC seems to be a very good option to me.
