BTW my V70 is a 2011 D3 SE Lux with a Gen2 box, and the previous owner, aside from the first service, has never taken it to Volvo so its never had any software updates.
Mine had the updates when the valve body was fitted but I didn't notice any difference in the delay. I am interested to know what reading the gearbox is taking from the footbrake being applied/released. I think it isn't the brake switch so maybe it uses a vacuum reading?

I'll plug in the OBD when I'm testing and see if there is anything obvious.

How come you had to get the valve body replaced so soon?

It was self diagnosis after alot of research and after my 1st oil change that was very black, which probably a result of some towing 2000kg.

£1k for the valve body seemed a better option than £4k for a rebuild.

I had all software modules on my 2009 V70 updated yesterday, whilst it was in for the Polestar upgrade on special offer. I can confirm that the stop/neutral feature has now gone (as part of the TCM update) and the car feels much more responsive from a standstill with no switching in and out of neutral.

I’d definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the update! I may get the software(s) updated then but I do the servicing myself so it aint going back to Volvo anytime soon.

How's the Polestar? And how much was it?

An additional £80 for all the modules? That sounds awesome! I wouldn't mind doing what you've done but it looks like Polestar is not an option for the 2011 D3 163bhp. I get the impression based on your description that your autobox popping into N was blatantly obvious, whereas for me it isn't so I suspect mine doesn't pop into N. Either way I'll pop into Volvo Reading and ask how much it would be to update the modules.

I believe on the first page of VIDA it tells you if you have neutral control activated?

Is there another way to confirm that I have it enabled/disabled like live monitoring?

Yes it does, at least on my 2010 (others have a software update that changes this)

So if I hold the brake, the car clearly goes into neutral and you hear the engine load drop.

If I apply the parking brake while in D, you hear the load on the engine increase as the engine/transmission is trying to push against the brakes.

I don't have a delay when releasing the foot brake before it goes back into Drive (which is why they created the software update 🤷*♂️)

Yes there is an engine load data PID in VIDA on the ECU that shows engine load as a percentage.

On mine the load is higher in D with the handbrake on, than with the foot brake applied
