W210's are rust buckets. You'll struggle to find one that isn't falling apart.

I think when it comes to car finance most people only see monthly figure, like phones on contracts.Like 400 quid a month is not a lot...but times 12,times number of years...you can buy a banger with MOT every month...

Well, not the 2002 V70 lol.

I just mean owning an older car & spending money on repairs (within reason) is still far cheaper than buying a car on finance or PCP.

Was your E Class an estate? I don't think the V70 is as big as the Merc estate, so that may explain the narrowness.

No it was a saloon, but w210 are really spacious inside in the way modern cars aren't..you are not hemmed in by pillars, very wide footwels and seats, nice soft ride on Elegance trim...I miss it already...Bloody ULEZ,only reason I got rid of it

I think the V70 you bought & the Merc E Class are practically the same width. Merc is longer though.

I get what you mean about modern cars feeling cramped though.

Feels significantly smaller inside, narrower footwell, seat can't really be pushed that far back, and relatively cramped rear seats, legroom wise, trim is also squeky/rattly.Seats,however are fantastic, rustproofing also fantastic, generally really well made in unpretentious way, unlike say VW/Audi that,to me look higher quality then they really are...Front/rear wheel drive does not bother me,being slow driver in general, but Merc was incredibly easy to park,I could see the nose of the car,and with excellent turning circle you could squeeze it anywhere,Volvo is bit challenged in that respect,to put it mildly.

mine felt huge at first but then I began to realise what small spaces I could get it into .. so to speak

when I put a reversing camera on it though that made things a lot easier, it is a bit guesswork otherwise, mine doesn't have beepers

It's probably the most spacious I've owned tbh, the seat goes back futher than I would need and I'm 6'2 with pretty long legs.. agreed the back seats could have more room but then the boot space well makes up for it. and my rear passengers are 6 and 4 so they dont really need a lot of space in fairness

I understand what you mean. For such a big estate car, the rear leg room is woeful in my opinion. I've sat in small hatchbacks that have similar leg room in the back seats!

The newer V70 (2008 onwards) feels much more spacious inside, comparatively to the shape you have. Its also a bigger car, so rear leg room is better. I can have the seat fully back in my dad's V70 estate (newer shape) & there's still room for someone well over 6ft to sit in comfort. Glad that they improved the leg room on the newer model, as that's one of the things that put me off the older shape being honest.

So what's your plans going forward?
