Also, I guess I should ask, if I get the flange bolt off, will the flange come off willingly or does it need some encouragement like a tap from behind?

It will literally fly off if you use one. No need to lock the flange , the nut will just come off and the flange should come forward pretty easily. Remember to disturb as little as possible, so as to not damage the flange seal. Retightening, it goes ( from memory ) to about 160nm and for that I used the crankshaft locking tool that I already had.

Yes I didn't try the gun as I assumed it would spin the flange. Ok will try.
And use a dog and hammer to get the flange off? Think I'm possibly going to bring this to success. Really can't stress how grateful I am for the help. Biggest job I've done on this car. |

The flange nut will come off immediately with a good impact gun. The flange will slide off ok. 👍
