Well done Simon. Keep working at it . Not many of those left. My brother had one of those. Same colour and black leather and was a super car.

That is nice work.
Use the car and have some fun, while gradually working your way through the rusty parts. The GL is a nice spec and it will be a fine car if eventually it's all done to that standard. John |

A quick update
I've just had the other wheel arch done and repairs to the inner wing where the bonnet hinge attaches Not by me , I wish I had the skills. I've picked up a couple of new old stock front wings that will be going on when it gets a full respray Which just leaves round the front and rear windscreens , I'm not looking forwards to what they are going to find when the windscreens come out .... It also needs a section replaced around the sun roof I've penciled that in for mid April with a full respray there after (Bank manager willing :-) ) Ah well it's only money it's in for an MOT on monday so we'll see what else that throws up , I'm not expecting many surprises re welding wise as it was looked over before I started paying out on the resteration and it seems to drive OK. I'm just trying to sort out a problem with the front indicator not working , got the lens off , screws seezes and rounded off and not much left of the reflector , it just crumbled and fell apart when I got the lens off and the bulb was seeze solid Hmmm! I just need to sort it out so it works to Pass an MOT. I'm assuming all round the car will need replacing at some time in the future - the same time of the respray would probably make sense Oh well, and might as well replace the rubbers while I'm at it .... |

hi Simon. Looks like "Phil More" is coming on nicely. Had the same sort of problem with rust around windscreen but for now i got away with just having to take the trim off, doing some filling and sealing.Had her out today for a little runabout, so it will be wash & brush up tomorrow.Hope you manage to sort the indicator problem and good luck for Monday. When you remove the wind shield, be warned, the rust will probably go much deeper and to do it right you will probably need to remove the full front dash/scuttle. Necessary if you want to keep the car for a long time.

Don't waste your money on a respray unless you have got ALL the rust out. Especially around the windshield.

I noticed that VP parts have a replacement windscreen panel - not cheap though.
It does have a split screen - either it's been placed in the wrong bit if the site (should be split screen PV), or it's designed for stability when transporting??? to cut off when in situ???? Anyone have experience of VP panels? are they NOS or pattern? |
