i was 25 when i got my first Volvo, a V40 T4, went to the XC90 Exec at 28, and have had 2 other S60 T5 whilst running these. I'm 30 now, and have run 4 "old man" cars.

I looked a Beemers 330's a few months back when i was looking to change the S60, but eventually went back to another S60. Reason - spec, safety, size, cheaper than the german brands, but IMO look just a high quality.

Insurance...just part of the running cost worries I am starting to fear.

I know the tax is going to be £425+, my insurance have quoted me another £100 for the rest of the year (<2/3rds of it)...so hopefully not too bad at renewal.

HOWEVER (& it's a big however!) the XC90 I am buying was getting MOT'd today & failed...needs >£700 of work. In addition there were another £500+ of advisories ! Wow - they are not shy are they. That was at the main dealer as the seller had a service/warranty plan.

After much humming & haying, we agreed a revised purchase price in order to keep the deal alive. I (think) am still getting a good deal, even if it is costing me a few quid more. I am going to post the full story in my other thread - 'Considering an XC90', but felt it was appropriate to mention the running costs here. Do many of you keep your cars on dealer servicing once out of warranty? I think I'll be looking for a good indy !

P.s Should say, I hope to stay brand loyal, if it all works out...maybe an R-design next time !
