Apologies, my mistake, the 940 he had on site, the H reg 740 is a probate buy so could arrive in weeks. Yes I will try to heed your advice, not to ‘buy in haste, repent at leisure’ Cheers Steve |

Whilst no expert, I did take suggestions and following day, turned it over by hand, it turned but had ominous metallic scraping sounds, my gut feel is ring scraping the bore, also it had a ‘tight’ spot when turning that didn’t feel a good sign. Car is good so plan to fully rebuild engine as and when I get time. Cheers Steve |

Hi SalvadorP
You are indeed correct, that the next step would be to do the standard fault find , i.e. do we have sparks and fuel, I think Classic Swede suggested this a while ago. Unfortunately I just don’t have time to do this at the present, so the idea was finding a stopgap car, and then sort my old Wentworth out when I have more time. Cheers Steve |

Going by the amount of time I spent searching and looking at rusty overpriced crap, fixing yours might be quicker!
That said, and notwithstanding that I personally don't like the face-lift 740 front end, this might be worth a punt at the ~£1750ish point I reckon. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204641424...mis&media=COPY MOT advisories are relatively minor and no history of corrosion. God knows what the true mileage is though, That's not a 44k seat bolster! |

Oh well that's not a waste of time, just research Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I need an estate. Agree the seat would tend to suggest mega miles, or a previous owner who dressed in sandpaper clothing Cheers Steve |

Yes, as Chris says and, as for the ebay saloon, I personally would'nt even consider it! At face value there's strange things about it especially the mileage and the driver's seat wear. That style of uphostery is about one of the most robust Volvo did at that time and it would take a fair amout of use to wear like that. Further I assume that engine is the B200E with Bosch K Jet CI injection. Much better to try and get one with Bosch LH2.4 which became available from 1 Jan 1990.

Urgh, electronics!
The F engines were a fair bit less powerful than the Kjet E engines too. From my owners hand book: B230F 116hp, 183NM LHJet B230E 131hp, 190NM Kjet B200E 121hp, 158NM B200F wasn't available, but you could have had a carb version with 103hp lol. |

Well I’ve seen some kind of sense, thanks to you guys, and withdrawn interest on the 940 snail rust fest.
Have sent a email asking about this little shiny thing, asking for reg number, photo 2, the eye jumps to bottom of NSR cill, looks suspiciously rusty compared to the rest of it. Also mentions gearbox service, suppose they just mean oil change?? https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1639246 At the other end of the scale, history not too bad, with preferred auto and a 2.3 rather than my 2.0 turbo. Downside it’s Guildford but only a train away I suppose. https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1686679 Cheers Steve |
