i use a piece of 10 mm copper tube bent to form an offset with a cheap £1 funnel sealed to the tube its very stiff so no need to hold while pouring fluid . it works well.

I’ve got a couple of these. They wedge into the dipstick tube.

Good work this morning on changing the transmission fluid. I decided to use my vac pump on it, as it was a hell of a lot easier!

Took the car out for a spin to warm up the fluid, jacked the rear up and stuck the tube in. Left it for about 45 mins, occasionally coming back to pump the pressure up again. Got a total of 4Litres out before I stopped! Very impressed.

Then used my new funnel to stick 4Litres back in!

Took it out for a half hour drive to the shops and back, no massive difference but it is noticably smoother in the lower gears. Especially from cold! Glad I did it now as the fluid was looking quite brown.

I've got another 4Litres which Ill use when I change the engine oil in a week or two.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Glad to hear it went well, what colour was the old fluid?

Also after you do the 2nd fluid change it would be worth resetting the fluid condition counter in VIDA.
Happy to do this for you if you pop into Reading.

Thanks for the offer! When we stop being in Tier 4 I may have to take you up on that, as well as read anything else on there.

Old fluid was a reddish brown colour. Looked more like engine oil than gearbox!

Quick de-salt clean at the weekend, ready for its bodywork to be sorted. Taking the bumper to be painted where its started to crack along the bottom. Theres also a mobile wheel refurber coming out Thursday to get the wheels looking brand new!

Still have a few interior bits "in post" at the moment, but its very nearly (Dare I say it?) The cleanest V70R out there!

Hi, new member and a great write up on your car. I have done exactly the same as yourself, the car is now MoT'd on the chassis number but I'm now struggling with registering it. I have been led to believe I need a Certificate of Conformity (which Volvo can't/won't let me have) or an IVA, do you have any advice that would help me? Very happy to make a donation to a charity of your choice for any input?

You don't need a certificate of conformity or IVA as the car is over 10 years old. Just fill in a V55/5 form. You don't even need to fill half of the boxes on that. Happy to help with it if needed. Will take you 5 mins tops...

Default Import tips

Hi, another new member here. I also have been looking into importing a v70r from Japan. Brilliant right up of the process you went through and a sweet looking example too. How are you finding the ownership experience so far?, and any tips on the best auction houses, suppliers out in Japan to have a look for suitable models?
All the best
Dan
