2007 tyres are now 14 years old! Tyres time expire as the rubber compound deteriorates. In tyre manufacture there is a balance between providing a tyre compound that gives maximum performance to the tyre but does not quickly fall apart. At 14 years old that balance is beyond the tipping point. You wouldn't rely upon a 14 year old rubber band! It is common acceptance that tyres over 5 years old are no longer safe to run, whether there are visible cracks or not. Tyres should be seen as consumables and not lifetime components. These tyres are consumed. You should avoid being mean with tyres because your life depends upon them.

Interesting.

How come MOT testers don’t look at the dates on tyres as part of the MOT?

I know they check for cracking & tread though.

I’m fully aware that the tyres are now 14 years old and yes they are definitely due a change but with the little use the car gets at the moment (about 50 miles every 2 to 3 weeks) it’s not getting done immediately especially when I have a v70 and c30 which are the daily drivers. The S80 will definitely not be cheaped out on when it comes to getting a new set of rubber. It’s a car I plan on keeping for a long time and want to do a few jobs to it for example polestar optimisation if I can get it on discount around the £300 to £400 mark 😁
