Sorry, so did you lift your bum off the seat too?

What we are trying to ascertain is:-

"Is it actually possible to get out of a car left in Drive and the car to drive away?" The turning off engine is a bit of an aside as the engine not turning off is what creates the condition above.

In my T8 the answer is - no it is not possible.

Well my experience is that I accidentaly had the car on drive, took off my seatbelt, opened the door to go out and an alarming sound started to remind me the car is on gear. The car though did not move. Same happens to the DSG of our Golf.

Yes bum off seat and door open and seatbelt unbuckled and car drove away when brake pedal released, I have a D5, it drove a foot before I hit the brake pedal.

What car and model year, my XC90 D5 MY 2017 does not give an audible alarm. If you turn ignition off while in gear it gives a pop up notice in driver display which is easily missed but no sound, and no audible alarm when seatbelt and door opened when car in gear.
Key not found notice will come on after you get out with engine running if key in my pocket, which it always is.

I didn’t take it out of gear and incidentally auto break was disabled by my in-law who thinks he has to press that and P to release handreak. I stepped out and the car started moving. Could have been bad. It never happened to me before or after but in a distressing unique situation people may not follow the usual routine and for something as obvious as opening the driver door in stationary in gear car it should just shut down.
I welcome your scorn and abuse and accept the stupidity award but I don’t see a rational reason for this not to be a safety feature.
pardon me
so it is now the Responsibility of car makers to account for stupid acts by car owners?
accidents happen, its Not normally the CAR at fault, Usually it is the id10t behind the wheel,, in control or lack of of the car OR the maintenance the car Needs has not been done

we do NOT need any more "auto-matic features to account for stupid people doing dumb things"
Nannying = NOT needed

learn a few things,,
Common sense
Personal responsiblity
"**** appens"

suck it up deal with it rather than "omg we NEED more safety features incase i have Another brain fart",,,we dont NEED them OR want them

we ALREADY have that,, we do NOT need any more dumbarses in smart cars ,, there are FAR too many as it is,,,

if the dumb arses can NOT operate the car properly,, its NOT the cars fault, regardless of petrol/diesel(spit thats for tractors)/electric power ,,

Doesn't anyone even give the dash a glance to see if the rev counter is reading 0 before getting out?
Just another article to support the idea that some people really shouldn't be allowed to be in control of a bus pass, let alone a vehicle.

Have you actually even seen the dash of a T8?

In my experiece the most dangerous drivers are those who think they are smarter than everyone else.

No but I’m sure there’d be some distinction between “run” (with ICE off) and full “off”?

XC60 T5 MY 2018. Mine also does not allow you to turn it off while on gear, but when in park if I unbuckle seatbelt and open door similar to yours there is no audible alarm. Message no key found also pops up (for the passengers I guess) since I have the key in my pocket BUT the car is still running. Actually to be honest that would have been an interesting feature to change since the key is not in the car, then the car should not be in use or at least cut off the ICE after a few minutes. Like that thives would not be able to steal your car and drive away.
