My AWD wasn't working. Dealer diagnosed (surprise surprise) that the splined sleeve conected front to back was worn. New part £90 ish and £200 labour. Result - fantastic on snow, ice. No wheelspin ever

some interesting footage of the xc90 in snow on youtube. There was a guy on there showing different modes. Regularly his car only engaged front wheel drive, yet you could see the rear wheels spinning at some times. He explains it though I found it difficult to understand. Sometimes to get the 4 wheels moving, you need to floor it. This has been my personal experience on snow with my my2010.

cheers

Hi,
Just read your post of having the XC90 4wd repaired.
I have just bought a car with fwd only. Can you tell me where you took yours to get it fixed please?

Thank you,
Tim.

Thanks Newbie1, it's a 54 plate D5, manual.
Correct - on snow...it won't go....!
Front wheels are spinning up and rears are doing nothing. Tried DSTC thing on and off - this made no difference. No warning lights at all. My friend plugged his scanner in and there was a pending fault code for the air flow mass meter - as he said, that could just be 'cos it's been spinning the front's up.
Any further info that would be of help?

Thanks for any advice,
Tim.

Cool no awd

you have the d5,can be the splined sleeve,if you look on this form you will find lots of info on how to test this,i think you leave all wheels on the ground look under the car for the prop shaft if you can turn it by hand most prob the splined sleeve.there can also be the pressure sensor on the diff the pump or the dem itself, you need a code reader that can read all the mods not just an engine reader,my code reader is a volvo ppc bsr,the other one that will read all modules is a eu702.
