Yeh, Unplugging the MAF caused caused my ETS light to come on, but the car ran alright .. getting some Electrical Contact cleaner (MAF Safe stuff) to give it a blast out. If it makes a difference it will be worth the £6, and I can then budget for a new MAF.
The MAF not responding quick enough would explain the 02 Sensor error of "Insufficient Switching" - if it thinks its going slower than the MAF when the MAF is at fault I can see how it would get confused. |

Did you try unplugging the rear O2 sensor? |

Cleaned MAF, unplugged battery for 45 mins, reconnected and started engine - light was off.
Idling a lot smoother than she was. No snoke or smells, not that I could see/smell anyway. Quick 5 mine round trip, most at 30mph quick sprint to 60 when the limit allowed, seems a lot more healthy! Will know for sure over the next few days after a few trips - just hope this has cured it! Next port of call if it goes downhill again is rear 02 sensor ... New MAF arrived today - Unplugged battery, installed new MAF, reconnected battery, and started the car up. Idle was alright if a little sluggish. Within 1/2 a mile (before the end of my road even!) car was starting to struggle a little.
By the time I got back to work (2 miles) revs on idle were down around the 300 mark, on the overrun into a roundabout the engine died (no power steering and no brakes AT 30mph just before the turn into a roundabout = "oh cr*p" moment. Started alright, idle was right down still. Drove the next 1/2 mile keeping a small amount of throttle on to keep revs up at 1200 or so, generally trying to keep the car rolling. Old MAF is going back in when I get home tonight, replacement is going back. Going to get jack and stands out tonight and try and get rear 02 sensor out of the car for a quick examination. Urg. What next! Oh and no Engine Managment light on yet. Last edited by JamesV70R; Feb 2nd, 2011 at 15:42. |

Left work, sat in the carpark with the engine running for about 10 mins, running a little bit sick, touch of a misfire now and then but much better than earlier.
No codes, so sat for a few mins and everything sslowly got better. On the drive home economy got better, a few "spirited" takeoffs at roundabouts had a small chirp from the tyres, so power is coming back. Fingers crossed it was just the ECU learning the resistance of the new MAF, compared to the 10+ y/old one that was in there. |
