So many don't and are driving around on FWD only, blissfully unaware.

I have a 2010 D5 with the Polestar upgrade. It shifts quite nicely on the move, but I'm slightly annoyed at how much it wheel spins if accelerating hard in the wet. I know the haldex system is front wheel predominant, but it almost feels like it is a front wheel drive car, not AWD. I also have a Quattro Audi (Torsen permanent AWD) and dont have any issues like this.
My question is, is this normal, or could it imply an AWD issue? I've had the haldex pump replaced in the last 12 months, so it should be working fine. |

It shouldn't be like that. Even with the pump changed there are two further sensors in the dem as well as the DEM itself and associated wiring on the Haldex unit and at the front there is the angle gear. A failure in any of these areas will mean you only have front wheel drive. You can check the angle gear/spline yourself by reaching under the car and grasping the propshaft. If you can fully rotate it you have a problem although the chances if that are slim on a 2007 upwards due to uprated parts. For all of the other items that I mentioned you will need to have the codes read on the car. You will not normally get any warning messages hence why so many only realise that they do not have AWD until they actually need it.

Hi, I have a 2004 Volvo V70R Manual with 160k on the clock. No history of problems in this area and I proved only yesterday that it works in the mud. Just make sure it is serviced often and well.

2009 XC90, 140k miles, all is good. Indeed, in all those miles the only failure was a xenon headlamp bulb thing.

Thank you all for these great info!
Volvo XC70 D5 2005 185hp, 2005 manual gearbox. 251.000 Kms and the sleeve has just failed. What should I look for in order to check if the angle/transfer box is also damaged? Is just a visual check on the teeth enough? And on the gearbox side? Anything to look for? I can buy only the sleeve, oil and rubber parts for around €200, but I'm afraid I'll have problems again soon in case something's wrong besides that... Since this is the 185hp model, does it already have the newer/stronger parts? In case it doesn't, can it take them or are they specific for the >2006 models? Thank you very much, Luis |

update: the problem is not in the sleeve. It's a spindle (not sure if this is the right term in English) inside the angle box that is destroyed.
The sleeve, although not as new, seems in good condition. |
