So it can't be that.
Apologies for the thread derail (?!)
Baggy, when you say "with meths assist", do you mean water/meth injection or are you using straight methanol as a fuel/enhancer?
Would be grateful for further info/observations.

It looks (from the pattern of bidding at the previous auction) that the genuine bidding dried up at about £6,200, and this bidder:

8***mFeedback score (107)

Nudged it on all the way from £3,500. I still think £9,000 is an ambitious price for a pile of single cylinder bits and won't leave any profit margin.

That pile of Vincent parts has sold - it was a classified ad so we won't know the price, but one might assume it was for something between £6,200 and £9,000.

I may have mentioned before , the "Vintage" market over here where cars 30 years old command a premium, as road tax is 56 Euro.
Below is a page of Volvos, there are the occasional punters who will throw in a non classic (just chancing their arm).
But a general idea of prices can be obtained.

P.S. the Amazon parts car looks okay for what it is.

That is really interesting Bob,

I can see that you have you have exactly the same historic/vintage vehicle premium as we do here in the UK, but it applies 10 years sooner. Prices for late 1980s and early 1990s motor cars are higher (compare the 1991 940 with nearly 200,000 miles at 6,450 Euros with the 2004 V70 with 120,000 miles at 3,000 Euros) than they would be here (where a similar 940 might make 2 grand). I suspect the situation will reverse for 40 years old motor cars and it will be worth exporting them to the UK once our historic vehicle premium kicks in.

It is interesting that exactly the same inverted market has been created by a slightly different set of conditions (30 years old and 56 Euros tax). Here in the UK the historic premium is (I would say) a little more obvious and worth 50% to 100%, this is the factor that has increased 240 prices considerably, but so far has had no effect on the 740 and 940 series cars. There may well be an historic premium applied to 740s from 2025/26 when the first ones start qualifying (which is why I think a 1984 or 1985 740 might be a good idea for my next project).

Many thanks,

Alan

Default 740 research

Furthering my research into 740 prices:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134361483...Bk9SR8ilmKGhYQ.

... this one has a new MoT, so it might make £1,500, it is slightly newer than I will be looking for (maybe next year, perhaps 2024) and it is an estate (so would be out of the running, if anything a saloon might be a bit cheaper).

I'll keep an eye on it

Default 740 research

This one might be a good indicator. It would be a bit too new, has a huge mileage (262,000) and has been laid up for years:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255871990...Bk9SR8ilmKGhYQ

... but is an indicator of close to the bottom of the market for project motor cars. The vendor (one who dabbles in the motor trade rather than a dealer I think) has realised the historic vehicle premium is just over the hill (although in 2027, not 2026 as he/she claims) - and so it trying to cash in on the historic vehicle bandwagon early. I think too early as 5 years is quite a long time to pay tax on an otherwise unattractive vehicle; in my opinion this one is only worth £500, but I'll watch it to see if the historic premium has started affecting 740 prices yet.

I doubt that this one will make £900 - off the road for 4 years, no MoT, doesn't run, needs trailering away - £500 maybe, or £250 for scrap:
