It certainly puts old Volvo prices into perspective Andrew!

I've just done a google search and apparently 7 of the 15 most expensive bikes have been Brough Superiors, plus a smattering of American bikes, but the most expensive was a Vincent Black Shadow from 1951 at $929,000 (in 2018). The Black Shadow that Rollie Free set the motorcycle speed record with at Bonneville in 1948 is reputed to have sold for $1,100,000 by private contract.

Not just another motorbike I think!

Wow slightly out of my budget!!

I know what you mean Alan, i was trying to illustrate how little i know about motorbikes and also that unless you have at least some knowledge a Vincent is not really meaningful.

My last experience of motorbikes (i use the term loosely!) was about 32-33 years ago with a small Suzuki that was allergic to water - it only had to see a drop of water and it stopped!

About the only bike i would consider these days would be a Honda Gold Wing, preferably an 1800 but you're into the realms of a small car almost with that!

Well in the retro-happy world of the super-rich, a new Brough Superior is probably cheaper than a restored one:

Someone somewhere is probably doing similar with Vincents.

I wonder how many fakes were made by cleaning and polishing the engine in a Black Shadow?

There was a chap near Henley who did that many years ago. He wasn't pleased when people recognised the bike for what it really was. Looked gorgeous, though. (The bike, not the chap).

:-)

PS. I do most of my pontificating early in the mornings (it is a military habit to get up at 05:00) so that is probably it for today. I'm off to town in GAM to meet Charkie for a bit of breakfast at the Wetherspoons :-).
This one made £920 at auction, but still didn't reach its reserve. That was a bit more than I thought it would reach (I thought about £800 for a non-runner that needs trailering away), but the vendor must have expected more.

I did some research on this one and concluded it was probably a good motor car, if I'd been in the market for one at the mo I might have bought it. I'd have fixed that fuel issue in a day or so (the one with the K-Jetronic that never goes wrong, except I hear about them going wrong frequently ).

If the vendor is sensible he will accept the £920, otherwise we might see the motor car advertised again, but it might well make a bit less (due to bidder fatigue).
