I simply fail to care what's happening in London and the South East,after all in "normal"times they don't give us further North the time of day.

That's quite a generalisation! You may well be right as far as our 'elite' politicians are concerned, despite what they say, but us ordinary folk do think you matter.

'Dippydog's post may well have been a generalisation, 'Wizzpop', but I for one can certainly empathise with the sentiments that he expressed. Your's reminds me why we should be guarded in making them. Thank you for making it, it is appreciated. I also have friends who, for various reasons, have relocated 'darn sarf' and who still care very much about their more northerly roots.

Regards, John.

Of course all of this will simply cease to be a problem as we transition smoothly to the shiny, problem free world of EV's. Except

Interesting that the new V2G chargers will be able to supply power to the grid from the cars battery to supplement the grid at times of peak demand!

In the future, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology is also expected to mitigate strains on the grid in combination with V2G-compatible smart chargers. Bi-directional charging will enable EVs to fill gaps in power when demand is high and then draw power back when demand is extremely low.

Does that mean those with hybrids will be asked to run their ICE to boost the grid when necessary?

Actually, it's a poor reflection on the government. EVs have been coming for a few years now, together with the government banning the sale of petrol cars by 2030. A proactive government would have ensured adequate electricity availability, but;
There is an urgent need to invest in low-carbon infrastructure in the UK as much of the current electricity generation capacity will close by 2030, including a substantial amount of the UK’s nuclear sites.

Well i also don't care too much for the new London anymore, and i was born there, However your comment is well wide of the mark regarding feelings towards others from genuine Londoners.

I too welcome the first big power outage of winter 2026. Cars not working, "get on t'tinterweb, see what the government is doing about it",. T'tinterwebs not working, Putin cuts gas supplies. we all go back to living in caves....... Hurrah!
