Default Abs

Hi Ouch, is this not the ABS doing what it is supposed to do. Normally the ABS will not come into operation until you brake severely but with the conditions we have just now with snow and ice there are occasions when you just have to touch the brakes and the ABS will operate. It makes a grinding sound and the brake pedal vibrates but just keep your foot on it.
It is the sensors releasing the brakes when they are about to lock up and that is what it is supposed to do. 'Cadence Braking' but much more efficient.

I have had this car for 18 months, It as in that time done 10.000 miles with 2 trips to Amsterdam via dover fully loaded but never have I had wheel spin when setting off (even in a muddy field)or the judder and noise like this, I know the roads are slippy but man its bad.
Its that bad people on the street look up at me
The wheel spin with the lighter tiny grind seems to be the nearside wheel only but the judder and bad grind comes from under foot.
No lights on the dash.
Tried it in sport mode tonight but she still did it
I will be amazed if it normal but on the plus side its cheap

Sounds normal.

ABS and traction control will often be working in this weather - even more so if the front tyres are partly worn. And the noises you describe sound normal.

I suggest that you find a clear and well gritted section of road and see how the car behaves. If the noises stop (except under very hard braking and acceleration) then I would say all is well.
