It seems like that with all Volvos. MPG nowhere near. I have yet to experience personally, or read anywhere that Volvo is near any claims they make, which is frustrating. Other cars are far from official, but not as wide a gap as Volvo imo.On the other hand 40+ from a large SUV/4x4 type vehicle is rather good, although thats hardly the point I suppose!!

Regards the D5, my own opinion is that it is now feeling old, and the noise which I once loved, I now 'just like', and sometimes actually dislike depending upon my mood. It irks me that a D2 is much smoother and a much quieter engine, so for me it is quietness that is more appealing.

I think I did a thread on running cars in sometime back. I always 'run' a car in by driving it normally, even a bit hard tbh, never keeping the revs constant and doing a serious of moderate acceleration and deceleration and bedding the brakes in. It was way back on a Lotus recommendation on how to run a car in, and I always follow it.

I never notice any improvement in MPG as a result, although my engines have always been reliable and I have felt retained their power.

It's a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde car, to be honest. The first thing my work mates said was how quiet the engine was, when moving round the car park. It's perfectly possible to drive it without the throaty sound of the 5 cyl, but as soon as you put your foot down, it growls. The polestar update perhaps makes it more 'Hyde' than 'Jekyll', though!

Only had it 4 months, so possibly the novelty will wear off
