The car has now been painted in Granite grey and I spent 2 days building up the doors and fitting them, the doors have to be perfect as it is one part of the car that has always annoyed me. I re-tapped all the captive nuts to metric sizes and used stainless bolts so no more seized rusty bolts to deal with.

Got the passenger door fitted nicely

And the drivers door

The car looks great in this colour and the chrome will really show in contrast, the painter has to come back out and polish the imperfections out of the lacquer as I am not happy with the finish.

I have come back to the car after some delay with the finishing, I painted the engine bay and decided to fit new brake lines as it is a straight forward job, it is important to put the rubber grommets on before flaring the pipe.

The dust on the engine block is deliberate as the paint underneath is very good and the dirt acts as a barrier so the engine bay paint will not stick.

I have started to put the chrome back on the car and I am glad I went with the later door handles, my originals were in a bad state. The new colour makes the remaining chrome stand out.

I need to address the wheels next.

The rear has all new chrome bar the badge which I will need to fix.

Reinstating the bright work on this car really adds up in terms of cost and I have not got new bumpers yet, if any one has a good set of cowhorn bumpers please let me know.

Default Update

The car has now been finished for over a month and after a long shakedown and a few teething troubles Volvo is ready for daily service.

Car is indeed looking good. Are you going to leave the hockey stick chrome side trim off the car?
Is the colour from the current Mercedes metallic grey?
