Checked with National today and they informed me that they only did the front wheels, they are not equiped to do the backs. I pointed out that it was clearly a 4 wheel drive vehicle and that they could have told me that before taking my money and sending me off thinking i had an aligned all 4 wheels.

Valuable lesson learned!!!!

All modern Volvo's need 4 wheel alignment regardless of being 4 wheel drive or not.

My car pulled to left from day 1. Recently, i complained about terrible drumming noise at some speed; about 35/45/60 and volvo dealer advise it was the tires and the car needed alignment.

Did it yesterday. £61 later, the drive very straight... Quite amazing when you spent 20k miles steering right to go straight

But the b.... Drumming noise is still there... Argggg

I finally got round to getting my car looked at by MTMC recently.

Further to earlier advice it is necessary to book (at least it was on a Saturday morning).

In less that 1 hour my car was significantly adjusted and it immediately felt like I was driving a different car.

The work cured the pulling to the left, as well as the droning which I thought might be a wheel bearing and has hopefully stopped further accelerated tyre wear.

For me it was a 100 mile round trip and £60 but well worth it.

I had hassle with my previous car ( a Chrysler Grand Voyager ) where is started to pull badly to the left at the beginning of the year. I had it tracked and balanced and could not believe that it was just as bad - to give an indication of how bad it was I could leave the dual carriageway onto a slip road by just taking my hands off the wheel.

Obviously not happy about it, the garage came to the conclusion that it was something that had happened over time and distorted the tyre shape somehow as they switched the L/R fronts and lo and behold the car wanted to drive to the right into oncoming traffic! ( more scary believe me). The tyres were legal, but were going to need changing before long, so 2 new tyres, re-tracking ( free of charge) and it drove perfectly straight.

I'll never know if I was being fobbed off or not, but it is a friendly local garage that aren't in the market of making stuff up to sell tyres ( and I was certainly under no obligation to buy them there) - I just wondered if perhaps you drive with balancing/tracking out for a long enough time it can distort the tyre shape without being obvious to the tread wear. Just a thought.

Regards

Mike

i used to own a 2006 56 plate xc90 d5 se from brand new. had it for 4 yrs and never had a single problem with it. nothing mechanical or electrical and definitely no pulling left/right problem. after a years absence i have just purchased an identical car (from a specialist dealer) year/spec etc with 36k miles for £16,495 immaculate with 1 previous owner full service history. was daft enough to just drive around local roads with it then hand over the cash. as soon as i got onto the motorway and floored the accelerator it tried to throw me onto the hard shoulder!!!!! the car drives straight whilst cruising but as soon as you apply acceleration it veers hard to the left. i took the car to elite in rainham essex and they did a full laser track and alignment and the car was out of manufacturers tolerances. everything was adjusted to spec had new discs and pads fitted handed over my money and left. as soon as i got onto motorway and floored it it veered violently to the left again!!!! to be honest scared the living daylights out of me!!!! phoned the guy i bought it off and he is sending me to a specialist to fix it. his specialist said easy problem to solve. either new wish bones track rods or engine mounts. from what i read here this may not be the case. does anyone have anything new to add on this please as thinking about chopping the car in after just 1 week of ownership at great loss!!!!!!! thanks
