Default Apple CarPlay

I have Apple CarPlay. One of the features which you can use with Siri is the ability to answer messages. A message arrives, you can have it read out to you and you can verbally reply.

Apple Maps can be used. The maps are NOT integrated with the Volvo system, but Siri will give verbal directions over the built-in speakers.

Spotify and TuneIn radio are supplied, and the system will play back your iPhone music and is easily controlled.

As a previous responder said, Apple CarPlay will grow and new functions will be added. iOS 10.3 will probably add new options. Apple will "enable" other apps to be added to the screen.

Summary - it's getting better. If you have it, you will probably use it. Is it worth paying for? Hmmm...

Is it Volvo who is charging the premium or Apple??

The car I just bought has this. Haven't even tried it yet.

The std phone integration works well (messages come in but don't seem able to be read out loud from my other half's iPhone whereas they can on my Android phone), the nav system is fine (though a bit quirky - no full postcode search from the free search option?) and a 128Gb USB memory stick has my full library on it and works well.

I'm struggling to see what additional benefit Apple CarPlay or Android Auto would bring to be honest...

I specified CarPlay as an option and I'm relatively pleased with it, Spotify works well, albeit it seemed to chew through my data allowance when I was streaming.

I am on the beta of iOS 10.3 and there have been a couple of changes which I have noticed, namely shortcuts to the most used items listed on the right above the signal strength indicator, but nothing major and no new apps have appeared on the screen.

I guess we will have to wait for iOS 11.

Is that the type of future for CarPlay?

If so, it could be more useful than it currently is (although I'm still happy I didn't spec it, and can retro fit it).

This will be interesting to see how well it works, I suspect a good number of Jag drivers are company car drivers and will have fuel cards

That's the kind of thing... To borrow a turn of phrase from Donald Rumsfeld, it's the "known unknowns"... We don't know what Apple plan to do with it, but we know they'll do something and I can pretty much guarantee that by the time I sell my XC90 CarPlay will be a lot more evolved than it is right now.

It will be interesting to see if Volvo are able to integrate with the Shell system directly, implementing their own app for Sensus. But I don't hold out a lot of hope, I haven't seen a single new app since I got my car last June.

The shell app doesn't currently have CarPlay support.

Not sure I'd trust Volvo with my payment details so if this was to happen I'd hope they'd use PayPal for the actual transactions.

More than happy to trust Apple with card/bank details, on the other hand.
