[QUOTE=fierceteapot;923662]If its true, then you can't completely blame them. Their MD did come on here and do his best, but if its something else that they can't fix then thats tough cookies surely?[/QUOTE
Why would I lie? The real question which I would like an answer from BBA-Reman for is: Why did they not find this fault when I originally sent them the ETM to test nearly 3 weeks ago? And why did they not find the fault after they had so-called repaired it and returned it to me? Why did they only find the fault on return to them ? I would say they have a problem with their testing procedure, because if they are missing faults first time around, then they need to review their whole setup for testing faults. And as for doing his best...............Well if that's his best just returning it to me after being messed around..........Well John Cannan that's NOT good enough! OK they have given me a full refund, apart from the money it cost me to post it to them in the first place, the taxi's and favours I have had to ask people over the last 3 weeks as I had no transport, apart from a 44 year old Suzuki step thru! Now I have to try and get my car to the nearest Volvo dealer which just happens to be nearly 30 miles away! And because I only have home start the AA wont recover it to the garage. So which ever way I look at it.............I am back to square 1 and up the smelly creek...........and it looks like it's going to be a very expensive smelly creek too! As previously stated Thanks BBA-Reman |

Well I had my ETM replaced today by my local Volvo Main STEALER!
They wanted £525 to fit and install !!!! ETM was £294+ vat, they wanted 1.8 hours labour to fit the new ETM and do the data upload / install. Er I dont think so m8!!!! I had to remind them that the car was a Non turbo and the ETM could be removed by me in 2 minutes ( I have re-routed the cable so it did not go behind the starter motor) they then gave me a new quote of £411 fitted which included half an hours labour at a cost of £47.50 ! ( £95 per hour for labour) and £0.50p for the software install and upgrade.............basically I had to pay it as they are the only Volvo Stealer within 30 miles of me! The ETM they fitted was one with a WHITE SPOT !!!! So it is going to fail again !!! So it cost me £411 today ! I'm so ****ed of with the car breaking down all the time and costing a fortune to fix that I will be getting rid of it ASAP! And dont even get me started on BBA-Remans..................... |

Hi Mate
Brand new to this forum, joined to send you a message really. I had the exact problems you described with 'engine sysytem service urgent' and 'reduced brake performance'. I eventually spotted a lose pipe while my mechanic was pondering the problem. The pipe in question comes from the inlet manifold and joins a sensor under the plate that holds the bonnet catch. problem solved instantly... if you need pics or anything get in touch Lawrence |

Yellow spot/ White spot they all have the same crap inside that will fail at some future point due to poor design so I wouldn't worry too much on that score - Mike

ETM and BBA Final Summary
Just to close this off, my car is now fixed.
It has cost me aound £1000 including diagnostics, fault tracing, part of the wiring loom replaced due to being partially chaffed through and throttle pedal replaced due to faulty sensor (both replaced with second hand parts) and the cost of a new ETM from Volvo as it turns out that it was a mechanical fault, the butterfly valve was sticking oopen at 17º sending the car into limp home mode. This is something to note if you get this problem, as most of the information relating to this suggets that the ETM's are sound mechanically but the electrics (sensor) are of a flawed design. But both me and 'Katana Man' have experienced mechanical failures recently. BEWARE before you dive in and have the sensors replaced. Therin lies the second issue, BBA sensor re-furbs. I was without a car for 3 weeks while thay had my ETM, the first thing they purport to do is bench test them!? i.e they should have found that the 'electrical' re-furb was needless. To paint the whole picture, I have just received a full refund from them. So I would say that thet are not rip off merchants or anything like that, but are a touch incompetent, I never did get accurate/honest information regarding when I would get the ETM back. So personally, I would never use them again for anything that I needed quickly or meant my car being off the road. Also please heed the other warning about the mechanical failure of ETM's |

Thanks for the update, Andy....it was always my understanding that they were simply a flawed design GENERALLY....but you are right in that BBA should surely have found out that the refurb wouldn't solve the problem and not wasted your time and money.
Glad you got a result there and a received total refund....good on 'em for that at least...and glad you got your car back on the road eventually.!!!! Neil

P1026 on a V70 P2 is not listed.
http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=42231 P code are generic to the OBDII standard but there are few manufacturer specific differences. Volvo diagnostic computer defines these cades as ECM-XXXX numbers, for instance ECM-902A thru 911A refers to ETM problems Regards Peter |
