Plan is to use this car as the daily runner until White 850 version is turns up .. then re-evaluate .
Being a special original 1988 Volvo import means for some it has a strong market . The non-interference Set up with the camshaft and valve timings is something of a godsend for me , a great choice , for a driver like as me who appreciates the consistency of safety in the engineering . Henry Ford is reported as saying "They can have any color they like - as long as it is black " .. this one has an original red pinstripe as well , plus tinted the green tinted windows , sun-roof , original racing body kit , five spoke mags , awesome engine build , and regular 10000k service since new .. cheers Last edited by thaddeus; Apr 13th, 2009 at 15:01. |

One thing though:the white R's are quite rare(only know of a handfull)
So luck is needed in finding one. Nice tank you've bought there(it went all the way from here,Belgium,to you)

Regarding numbers of .. i wonder where there is record of the particular distribution of numbers of vehicles re :color/build/specs etc .. ? Story holds that it is a special order build negotiated between Volvo(NZ) and Volvo Belgium (Ghant) . Volvo's demonstration vehicle for the 1988 NZ Auto show . Will contact Volvo Belgium for any additional info regarding the build history .. cheers p.s. thhe White 240GT shown above (for being so very white has some similar history to the 740T just won on auction .. it too as a build for the national auto show this time for 1986 (740T imported for the 198 show) here is the read along for the white 240gt Quote:

Okay, currently have a 2005 S80 D5 Lux and a 1990 740 auto turbo estate, i previously had a 850 T5 estate.
THE s80 is big for a saloon, loads of room inside and very luxurious, one of the most comfortable cars i've ever driven. It has all the bells and whistles and for a big car the fuel economy is outstanding. Not the fastest though, and handles a bit like a barge. The 740 estate is BIG. I have the 2.3 turbo, and can't be described as a drivers car, again handles like a barge and the acceleration is hardly kick in the back stuff. But it's well put together and I'm quite enjoying the serenity of driving around in it. The 850 T5, I really don't know why i got rid of it. It's one of the only cars i feel like this about ( and i've had ALOT of cars). For me, this at the moment would be the car i got rid of my 740 for ( or a younger V70 T5), it handled well, had the space inside, and the engine and auto gearbox in sport mode was truly outstanding for a car of it's age. It was very comfortable in the leather seats. That is a very brief summary, could go on. In fact it has got me thinking...... anyone got a 850 T5 estate they would like to swap for my 740? lol |
