NO the 5.6 v8 is terrible engine, great where it belongs, terrible out of it, its a heavy old lump. i've been fortunate enough to drive a 500e on the track, and a 5.6 Hammer. the hammer was just horrible, it felt like constantly driving down a 15% gradient.

Took it out for a sneaky blast round the block. It needs a LSD for sure,
Drove very well though, one of rear caliper needs sorting, but other than that pretty good, thinking of wacking through mot as is see what else comes up. Needs exhaust as drumming on body where has no back box. What do people think about rust converter primers, as welds have got little grotty, and is it wise to use fiberglass mat to fill gaps in inner arches to mold original inner wing to new extensions? |

There's a lot to be said for sticking with a well-trodden path and installing a chevy 305 s/b engine. yes, its old tech and heavy and doesnt like high revs but in its favour:
It produces its power low down so you don't need to rev it. It's one of the most common engines in the world and costs less to rebuild than a ford pinto, they can even be found pretty regularly on ebay uk with matching th350 gearbox (which is bulletproof). It should see 200,000 miles with ease. There is a whole tuning industry around tuning these things for big power, you can get anything for them. a decent four barrel carb and headers will see a reliable 250bhp and 25 mpg if driven carefully (but its the torque figure that's the interesting one). It's something I'd like to do to my 740 diesel but realistically I don't have the time or money |

Long time since any updates, ended up unemployed august.
car, put to one side not forgotten. I've just bought a LS400, with a sweet v8, so hopefully some progress reports will be coming up soon. |
