Always wondered what it was for. Never seen it come on. Colin Edit : The car has a towbar fitted with double electrics since before I bought it but when I tow my single electric plug trailer it doesn't cause the light to illuminate. Has everyone that has this lamp present got a towbar fitted?

My 240 has a towbar with twin electrics (I think since it was new) and no such light.

Mike1967, you certainly did
Michael J Volvo 240 fitted towbars always (afaik) had the lamp wired in in the switch array. Even my 1982 244GLT had one. As per Volvo were ahead of the game on matters that eventually became law. Now a towbar has to have an audible or visual 'warning device' fitted. My T5 Est had a really annoying buzzer! It may well be that yours has a non volvo fitted towbar fitted before the warning devices were required

Are the normal tick-tock and dash lights not perfectly adequate? A fault in the connected trailer system ought to upset the regular indicators (and, quite possibly, the bulb-failure warning system).

Solved the wiper problem. I took it to a garage to sort as the whole wiper mechanism looked a bit fiddly. They said a cable had slipped off and it was a 45 min job...hmmm. anyway they are working fine now. Still mystified about the red light. It comes on at random times during driving I hoped it was some sort of fuel light as it is the only thing the car lacks. It does have a heavy duty towbar fitted.
The car drives really well really really pleased. She does have a whine coming from the diff, checked the oil and it was changed recently. Just waiting impatiently for the rear tailight I ordered so the car will look perfect! |
