Right... Just to give you an idea of roughly what the T4 should be like, i took mine out on a quiet stretch of road and did a 0-70(ish) test..... Hope it give you something to judge by

hiya guys, not sure if this bears any relevance but only when i lift off the throttle in mine (98 v40 t4), i get a fluttering sound, wether i'm driving or just revving off idle, my local mechanic says its the flexi pipe section of the exhaust, that sounds logical to me but im open to suggestions? As far as performance goes she runs sweet, i too have recently replaced the fuel pump and i only use volvo plugs, if i solve this fluttering problem will she go even better?!!

He might be right.. But that does sound alot like how i'd describe the wastegate arm being worn... I'd say it's worth checking that anyway just in case ... Take off the heat sheild... get a friend to help you and listen around the waste gate.... Then push on it firmly with a screwdriver / Pokey thing whilst your friend revs it... If it's silent, then rattles when you let go again, there is your issue
If you're getting correct boost, then it should only need ½ a turn (180 degrees tighter) .. Don't Over-tighten it as you will increase the boost by adjusting this and if you increase it too much, you risk destroying your engine

I did mate but forgot about that when i was writing back lol.
I was trying to avoid tinkering like that if i could help it but now it seems like its a job for this week sometime, it certainly seems feasible that the wastegate arm could be worn given the mileage of it. |

had a look this morning at the wastegate and it looks fine, no movement on it at all? there was however about 6-7 threads left on the bar going to the actuator, is this normal or too many?

That'd be about right i'd say... it's not movement, even when it's worn it doesn't really move, it just allows the pin to vibrate in the hole, hence the pushing on it firmly with a pokey thing to see if the fluttering shuts up
960, i wasn't aware of that issue, thanks What 960 said would also make sense, as the car would be losing some back pressure, although i wouldn't expect that to give you a really serious power loss unless it was bad enough to make it sound a bit like a tank, i'm sure 960 can correct me if i'm wrong on that point? HTH.

hmm, the more i read about this the more i'm starting to think you guys could be right and it's worth checking the wastegate arm, after watching that video yours does appear to be boosting better than mine, given my milage too (135000) i think i need to investigate this. As i said the fluttering/clicking sound is only there on overrun whether its hot, cold, while im driving or just revving off idle but as soon as i touch the throttle it stops. So, not trying to sound like an idiot can you tell me what im looking for when i get my head in there? Lol!
