I was thinking of asking Santa for this cheap one, which does not do ABS or Air Bag fault codes:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Diagnostic...item43b4dcea09

Is this any good for a P2 115 hp diesel and although this is a silly question, where does it plug in and does anyone have a fault code list ???

Most probably it will not work. The OBD2 port is at the left of the drivers footwell. See photo below

I have tried quite a few things to read my 1.9D, including USB to computer ones, cheaper OBD2 readers, even the Autel EU702 and finally the Volvo DICE. The EU702 would reset my airbag and read the ABS, but that was all. It would not communicate with the engine. The only thing that will talk with your 1.9D is the DICE. If you had a petrol car, then it is a different story. £120 may sound a lot, but if you consider that 1 trip to the Dealer will cost you £60-£80 to have your codes read and then you realise that it is a good investment. I read the codes on my car every month, have reset the SRS on my car as well as another dozen or so people and have also read the codes for a few more.

Plus you can do a lot more with the DICE

Question

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but if Santa does give me the 120 quid DICE do I need the VADIS program to read it or does it work on its own and give a direct fault description ???

VADIS will not work with it. You will need VIDA. It will come on a DVD with the DICE unit

So if I understand this correctly the DICE reader is the one I need to read the codes, communicate with the 1.9D and generally be used as a diagnostic tool?
If so then that sounds like a good investment. (and I have a birthday coming up)
My other question is about the 'boot stay mount'..anyone got one spare? (nearside) I haven't unbolted the broken one yet so cannot ascertain whether I could re machine a replacement for the ball bit.

DICE is the cable/box/ intercace connecting your laptop to the car. VIDA is the volvo software you need installed on your laptop to communicate via the DICE unit and read the codes on your car
