The original and later D5's do not share the same block, the original being cast and the later one pressed. They do not share the same turbos, the original being a single turbo and the later turbo being a twin type. The cylinder heads are completely different with completely different 7 hole injectors using a different pressurisation system. The pistons, crankshaft and conrods are completely different. The stroke and bore are the same but that is of little relevance. Roy

And I have a Swedish D5 215 that has hit 150% oil from the DPF regens, it is an inherent design flaw caused by injecting fuel during the exhaust stroke that affects many engines to different degrees, Volvo or otherwise. This is hardly the place to debate the finer details of Volvo's engines though, so let's stop at that. |

I do regular motorway drives, but I do not commute. I did the calculations and for me the DPF goes into regen at around 1.5 tanks of fuel.

My point is you could drive for several hours on the motorway to get from 0g to 22g then do a lot of city driving and interrupt a lot of regens. If you don't have a motorway drive every few days, perhaps less than weekly you risk doing this. It's good to be aware of when it's started so you can accommodate it.

Mines a 215 with polestar, bought it in 2016 after a Volvo selekt service I've since spoken to my local dealer who says it has no updates. I'm going in on Friday to see if they can find anything.

Very informative thankyou, I thought DPF regeneration was solely carried out at motorway speeds but that isn't the case
I know when my D5 is carrying out a regen as the exhaust becomes more boomy (it's just a straight pipe from the cat / DPF back) & once in a blue moon I had in fact experienced that same boominess at lower than motorway speeds, so that does indeed back your info up.

You know there is a silencer after the DPF I take it? You can see the DPF sensors if you look down the back of the engine. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...6&postcount=12 Roy
