Yeah I know, I don't want to spend a fortune on a standard 2.0T (with LPG system). If it was R model, story would be different... However I bought this car as a second one and didn't actually intend to keep it for too long, but now it's over 3 years and I like it nevertheless, having two kids on the board and a reduced size of the boot (because of the LPG tank), I'm kind of keen to change it as this car became my only one some time ago. They haven't found anything with the transmission today ,but that's because the mechanic went to work on another car and left mine for tomorrow (still haven't seen the video they asked me to share with them). I will be paying for the courtesy car for two days now, even though they could have done the check today...but that's ok... I will give them a chance I just hope they will do proper fault finding and not just a guess, trying to rip me off.

I had a call from them saying that they can't replicate the fault. They also checked that mechanism you mentioned in previous posts ,but couldn't find anything wrong with it. The noise and vibrations didn't happen neither, so they could rely only on my video. I will book it elsewhere I guess because I'm don't want to invest money in this car if there is some kind of more serious mechanical damage to the transmission :/

Having looked at the vid again it's something that is rotating that is also associated with the braking circuit so if there's a brake pump on the drivebelt circuit I'd be looking there if it happens again, strange as it might seem split diaphragms make similar noises but unfortunately not easy to diagnose or see without disassembly. If it does it again ask someone to do the pedal for you and get your head under the bonnet to see if you can locate the area it's coming from. Last edited by SnineT; Oct 11th, 2022 at 14:50. |

On my way back from the garage, I went to fill up the LPG at a local garage, where the guy does also repairs on cars and he mentioned that it could be related to the ABS system. Perhaps even the broken ABS ring could give false signals to the ECU and it's thinking it's not in the Parking gear...I don't know...perhaps I will book it in for the ABS ring replacement and see if that helps. I need to do it anyway now as I had the error on the dash when I drove over a bump at perhaps 10mph ,so it's getting much worse I guess. I will do the fuel filter as well as it is badly corroded.

Rather than get the rings replaced (do both if you're going to do one or it can unbalance things like odd tyres do etc) just get under there and see if you can clean them up and tug the sensors if they haven't welded themselves in and give them a wipe off at the same time, don't go mad on them or you risk killing them as well and if they're cheap enough replace them while you're in there. You've already had the selector checked haven't you? |

unbolt them and give them a little nudge from above with a screwdriver first don't just pull by the wire or you might damage it

It's definitely a broken ABS ring as they sent me a Health Check report with pictures (I posted those pictures here too). Perhaps that will sort out the Parking gear issue, perhaps not. It needs to be done anyway, so I will keep an eye on it after the repair if it happens again. I may clean up the sensor, but it's confirmed that the intermittent ABS fault I'm getting, is caused by a broken ring. If I'm lucky, I may sort out two issues at the same time |

Hi,
As a chap on page 1 said, this is almost certainly a malfunctioning shiftlock solenoid or associated component. It’s located under the shifter, which is why you could feel it. Pressing the brake pedal energises it into its open position, (pin retracted), which is why the noise stops. Releasing the pedal then de-energises it, which should allow the pin to settle back into place. You have a problem de-energising so the solenoid is rapidly operating and making the noise. I’ve linked a video to demonstrate what’s happening. You only need to watch the first 20 secs. At the risk of stating the obvious, the solenoid is the box on the right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiFonBrKQk0 This is probably one for Volvo or an auto electrician if you can’t tackle it yourself. Best regards, Rich. |
