Default Crankcase ventilation

As the supercharger manifold now sits in the way of the crankcase ventilation outlet on the engine block I needed something new.

The spark on this engine will be controlled by the edu and a DIS coil pack so I can do without the distributor. A good thing as it too sits in the way of the supercharger. Of course the oil pump still needs a drive so I made new ventilation outlet that doubles as a hold down bearing for the oil pump drive.

A nice box of brass plumbing fittings sorted out the parts and using the pillar drill as a lathe with a good file as a cutter I managed to get a good fit on the parts.

The oil pump drive cog is flattened and a shim will make up for excessive play. The shim is held by a brass piece of tube connected to the bracket. The cog is pulled downward by the rotation of the camshaft I believe but I will make sure the tolerance is ok, about 0,5 mm to play with at the moment.

The brass tube is drilled to let the crankcase air out and is connected to a 90 degree brass bend that has a screw on fitting with a bit of 15mm tube sticking out. A braided oil hose will be fitted to this outlet.

This outlet will connect up with the outlet on the rocker cover through a Y-piece. The Y will connect to the oil catch tank. The outlet of the oil catch tank will connect to another Y. First of the Y outlets goes through a checkvalve to the S/C inlet plenum (where the highest vacuum will be), this is the flow path under boost. Second outlet will go through a second checkvalve to the engine inlet plenum, the vacuum source under no boost (throttle plate closed). I found many routings for this circiut on the internet and not all seems sensible. I found this to make the most sense and in line with OEM routings

as for the throttle body: it will be placed before the charger and is a 55mm Ford RS turbo item, nice clean throttle body, shiny also, I will upload a better pic later
Good stuff. Look forward to following your thread. Good luck with the build...

Default Cool side of the block

Having moved the crankcase ventilation I needed to close up the original hole in the block. I used the original vent, cut off the little reservoir and filled in the hole with another plumbing fitting.

The fuel pump position will be taken by a plate with a stud welded to it. To this stud bolts the lower mounting point of the supercharger bracket.

Last picture shows all the supercharger bracket mounting points on the block

Thanks for all the views!

Too-much fun! I said yesterday an upgrade to injection was unlikely, but combined with a turbo - maybe. Just as a reality check, how much has been fun and how much frustration?

All fun, no frustration(except when you will let it get you) only challenges

Default Small update

Silence was not idle spend time...
Just a quick mock up of all (semi) finished parts. Coming together quite nicely.
Next up is machine work to the block and the choice of pistons. 3rd oversize forged pistons for b20, anybody any suggestions?

Good question, my wife pulled it from a 67 combi imported from Sweden. Supposedly a former Polis car. If the engine is original is a good question I have asked myself but not thoroughly investigated. Stamped number on dizzy side is 102904, any thoughts?
