I expect the 760 will also have one on each bank and at 32 years old, probably seized and/or corroded beyond reuse.
I'm talking oil filler cap Dave.

It's not part of the PCV but they do recommend renewing the rubber seal as it can go brittle with age

You're right Mark - i've lost the plot and posted in the wrong thread!

Not only that but answered as if your comment was in that thread!

I'm going to call it a brain-fart - that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it as i don't have any other option!

Thanks Mark, i think i've found the same item but it's close enough if not.

You see round the edge of the cap, those "D" shaped pieces? I was under the impression they were breather holes and there were other breather holes in the centre near the inside dge of the seal.
This would allow air to enter to help with the PCV system positive pressure.

Its just solid Dave. In fact as Swede says it seals completely and renewing the rubber washer helps it seal even more

No point in replacing cap Ian. Get a new rubber seal and bend the metal lugs down ever so slightly. If it's still leaking after that you still have PCV blockages.

I replaced all of my PCV system ( hoses, box etc ) when I got the car as it was quite oily all over the engine. I then replaced all front seals ( cam, intermediate and crankshaft ) with genuine Volvo and it's now as dry as a stick. Chap at Dumfries Volvo even commented on how dry it was when it was up on their ramp

The old 140 had a breather hose connection (the amazon/1800 just vented to air) and is popular to use when running more boost

The PCV system is the original system cleaned as best as I could but I have all new now ready to fit next time. I have had a close look at the cap in the past and it did not appear to vented in any way. The seal does appear to be old and worn and no longer resilient so replacement sounds sensible.
Does anyone know if the seal is available from Volvo?
